Rebecca Ferguson Returns In Silo Season 2 This Weekend
Perhaps one of last year’s biggest TV surprises was the debut of Silo, the sci-fi series starring Rebecca Ferguson that arrived on Apple TV+ and quickly found critical and ratings success. Set in the future in a huge underground silo, and following its 10,000 inhabitants, the show’s second season has been hotly anticipated since it was announced by Apple to be going ahead- and it’ll finally hit screens this weekend. Here’s all you need to know:
What is Silo about?
Silo, like 3 Body Problem, and many episodes of Black Mirror, is set in a dystopian future, where things for humanity have taken a turn for the worse, and it’s based on the Wool book series by Hugh Howley. It takes place in a silo deep below the surface, where a community of humans try to survive, unable to return to the uninhabitable surface. Out of these survivors, we follow Juliette (Ferguson), a skilled engineer who works with the generators powering the massive structure. Throughout the first season, she becomes obsessed with the idea that the powers that be in the silo are lying to the residents, and that there’s more to the situation than they are being told. Could the outside world be livable after all? Upon finding a hard drive showing a clip of the outside world looking green and healthy, she seemingly gets her answer, and eventually ventures out in a suit in order to clean the silo’s camera.
What will happen in Season 2?
As Juliette heads outside (spoilers of course), she discovers that in fact the video she discovered was fake and that the outside world really is a desolate wasteland that will kill anyone who sets foot in it without protection. What’s more, she spots a city in ruins in the distance, and what appear to be the entrances to other silos around her. Now alone and with little time left, she hasn’t got long to work out how to save herself.
So where will Season 2 take us following this revelation? It’s not going to be easy for Juliette to simply turn back and return to her silo, so she’ll have to work out how to survive outside in the harsh climate. There won’t be much time left before her suit stops giving her adequate protection, and series showrunner Graham Yost has revealed that much of the opening episode of the new season will focus on her racing against the clock to get to safety.
Who’s in the cast, and what else do we know?
Aside from Ferguson, another face confirmed to be returning from Season 1 is Tim Robbins, who plays now-mayor Bernard Holland, revealed to be something of a villain in the series. While two stars of Season 1 are unlikely to return (Rashida Jones and David Oyelowo) due to their character’s death, we do know that The White Lotus star Steve Zahn is set to join the series as a new character. Silo season 2 arrives on Apple TV+ on 15th November.
