Black Mirror Returns To Netflix For Season 7: All We Know

TV’s most popular dystopia drama is back: Black Mirror is set to return in the near future for its seventh season, once again streaming on Netflix and boasting another all-star cast. Netflix revealed that the next instalment of the hugely successful anthology series is currently in development, with six episodes being written for the screen, taking on more deep issues and social topics, weaved in with the intense dramatics typical of the show. It’s set to arrive on screen in 2025- here’s all we know so far:
What’s set to happen in Black Mirror Season 7?
Once again, series creator and head honcho Charlie Brooker will pen the new season, bringing his signature cynical humour to a fresh set of anthology stories. According to Netflix, Brooker has stated that there’ll be “a mix of genres and styles”, with all the episodes being sci-fi themed in some way or another. He also teases some longer stories this time around: “We’ve got six episodes this time, and two of them are basically feature-length. Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional.”
While Black Mirror has only gotten bigger since moving to Netflix, some critics and longtime fans have pined for the old days of the early seasons when it was on Channel 4- and it looks like this will be addressed too. Season 7 is “a little bit OG Black Mirror…it’s back to basics in many ways,” the creator told Netflix’s Tudum.
Who’s in the cast?
The big news is the sizeable cast list of talent from both sides of the Atlantic, which Brooker calls “embarrassingly stacked”: two big names include Emma Corrin, known for their role as the younger Princess Diana in The Crown and as a detective in A Murder at the End of the World, and Paul Giamatti, two-time Oscar nominee and recent winner of a Golden Globe for The Holdovers. Other names include Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians), Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), Rashida Jones (Sunny), Chris O’Dowd (The Big Door Prize), Billy Magnussen (No Time to Die), Siena Kelly (Domino Day), Issa Rae (Barbie), Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) and Milanka Brooks (who previously appeared in Black Mirror).
What else do we know?
There’s not much else announced yet in the way of episode stories (though of course, part of the fun of Black Mirror is not knowing what to expect), but Brooker has teased that one episode will be a sequel to the popular USS Callister episode from Season 4, “a sequel for the first time in Black Mirror history.” The new season will debut on Netflix in 2025.
