Chris O’Dowd Is Back For The Big Door Prize Season 2

One of the most enjoyable shows of last year was The Big Door Prize, a quirky comedy starring Chris O’Dowd (The I.T Crowd), set in a small American town that discovers a machine with the ability to predict a user’s “Life Potential”- which sends everyone into a frenzy. It was renewed by Apple TV+, and Season 2 is set to join shows like Sugar, Ripley and The Sympathiser as must see streaming this month. Read on for all you need to know before the new season.
What is The Big Door Prize about?
If you haven’t watched Season 1, or did but want a recap, here’s a quick refresh to bring you up to speed: based on the book of the same name by M.O Walsh, The Big Door Prize follows Dusty (O’Dowd), a resident of a small town called Deerfield. Dusty leads a pretty regular and stable life: he’s a married family man, has a job teaching history and is generally contented as he hits 40 years old. But when a machine called Morpho, which can predict what you could achieve in life, suddenly materialises in a grocery store, Dusty is both sceptical and intrigued. Could Morpho show him his true calling in life, and bring him to a greater sense of fulfilment?
What happened in Season 1?
While Dusty is our lead character, Season 1 features plenty of other figures in the town who each have an episode in which they feature prominently. There’s Dusty’s wife Cass (Gabrielle Dennis) and Trina (Djouliet Amara), their daughter, as well as Jacob (Sammy Fourlas), Father Reuben (Damon Gupton), Beau (Aaron Roman Wiener), Giorgio (Josh Segarra) and Izzy (Crystal R. Fox). These characters and their relationships grow throughout the season, but there’s a fair share of mystery too: what is Morpho’s true purpose, and where did it come from? What are the strange blue pimples that grew on Dusty? There are a lot of existential questions asked too, but things get most interesting in the season finale (spoilers!) when the Morpho starts to change, and a message appears asking, “Are you ready for the next stage?”

What’s next for Season 2?
The new set of 10 episodes will continue our characters’ journeys, as the Morpho machine readies them for the intriguing “next stage.” Dusty and Cass, who were unsure of their future in the last season, agree to take time apart from each other. There’s also romance in store for Giorgio and Izzy, while the people of Deerfield continue to ponder who they truly are. The cast of Season 1 returns, while new characters played by Justine Lupe (Succession), Mary Holland (Senior Year) and Melissa Ponzio (Chicago Fire) join our cast. The new series will debut on 24th April, and you can watch the trailer below.
