Julianne Moore And Milly Alcock Star In Netflix’s Mystery Thriller, Sirens
Netflix’s newest mystery thriller, Sirens, is set to debut this month, boasting a star-studded cast and coming from the creator of Maid. Oscar winner Julianne Moore stars as a billionaire’s wife and the leader of what may or may not be a cult.
This makes Devon (White Lotus star Meghann Fahy) suspicious when her younger sister (House of Dragon’s Milly Alcock) starts working for her. Over one weekend in September, Devon investigated the goings-on of the island where her sister works, and will uncover plenty of secrets. Here’s all we know so far:
What is Sirens about?
An alluring dark comedy, Sirens follows Devon DeWitt, who’s described as “down on her luck” and not very satisfied with life. She’s always keen, however, to look out for her younger sister Simone (Alcock), and feels a sense of trepidation when Simone suddenly gets a brand new cushy job. Her sister is hired to work as a loyal assistant to the wealthy Michaela Kell (Moore), who’s the wife of a super-rich mogul and the “lady of the manor” at their extravagant island estate, Cliff House. Devon becomes alarmed as her sister seems to be getting closer and closer to Michaela, who it’s said has a powerful sway over those she meets, and sets out from Buffalo, New York, to the island. But Simone seems totally dedicated to her new life, so she’ll have a tough job convincing her otherwise.
When she arrives, Devon immediately finds herself surrounded by all manner of wealthy friends and neighbours of Michaela, such as Ethan Corbin III (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Glenn Howerton). She’ll also meet Michaela’s billionaire husband, Peter Kell, played by Kevin Bacon, and other staff on the island, as she tries to discover whether her sister is finding her place in life, or if she’s in real danger.
Simone swears she loves her lavish lifestyle, and Michaela and her seem to share something deeper: “Michaela and Simone are friends. They’re trauma-bonded. They’re codependent…what they need from each other shifts throughout the show,” series creator Molly Smith Metzler told Netflix’s Tudum. But how strong is their relationship really? And is Michaela taking advantage… or even running a cult? Devon might find more than she bargained for as she spends more and more time on the island.
What else do we know, and is there a release date?
The miniseries, which is based on Molly Smith Metzler’s play Elemeno Pea, is set to debut on Netflix on 22nd May. Other stars in the cast include Josh Segarra (Abbot Elementary), Felix Solis (The Friend), Jenn Lyon (Happy Face) and Bill Camp (The Queen’s Gambit).
