Slow Horses Season 4 Is Finally Here

If you love spies and spy thrillers, then you should definitely be following Apple TV+’s Slow Horses if you’re not already. The first three seasons cemented themselves as some of TV’s most engrossing viewing and feature acting legend Gary Oldman as an exasperated spy in MI5, defending against some of the most pressing threats facing Britain. Aiding him are a team of mostly younger colleagues who’ve been deemed not good enough to be top-level agents. If tense, grounded thrillers like The Diplomat or COBRA, Slow Horses is for you.
What is Slow Horses about?

Gary Oldman is known for both his villainous roles in Hollywood like terrorist Korshunov in Air Force One, or his heroes like Commissioner Jim Gordon in Batman and Sirius in Harry Potter– but Jackson Lamb, the main character of Slow Horses, is somewhere in between. He’s head of the Slough House office of MI5, the dumping ground for recruits who’ve failed as fully-fledged agents but have been given another chance.
At first glance, he’s miserable and often rude, dressing poorly and drinking. He’s bored with the administrative tasks that he and his young recruits including River (Jack Lowden), Diana (Kristin Scott Thomas) and Sid (Olivia Cooke), and doesn’t care if they are too. But he still has a keen mind and is excellent in the field of intelligence, and as the group of “Slow Horses” as the recruits are called are drawn into investigating threats, they make a makeshift team.

This year, the show won big at the BAFTAs, landing wins for best editing and best sound in the fiction category. In season three, we last left things with a romantic liaison in Istanbul that threatened to expose a buried MI5 secret in London- leading to Lamb’s team being caught in a conspiracy that could jeopardise the future of MI5.
What has Season 4 got in store?
The show is based on the Slough House novels by Mick Herron, and season four adapts the book Spook Street, which sees the Slough House crew trying to catch those responsible for a deadly terrorist bombing. Directed by Adam Randall (I See You), the returning casting includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Kadiff Kirwan and Jonathan Pryce.

The show has even confirmed season five, although dates are still TBC. Digital Spy reported that season five sees everyone becoming suspicious with the arrival of resident tech nerd Roddy Ho’s glamorous new girlfriend. But a bizarre series of events across the city leads to it all falling down to the slow horses to find out how it’s all connected.
Who are the new cast members?
Along with the regulars, season four will see some fresh faces, including Hugo Weaving, Joanna Scanlan, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke and James Callis.
When will Slow Horses Season 4 be released?
The first two episodes of season four arrive today [4th September], and a new episode will drop every Wednesday on Apple TV+. The season finale will air on 2nd October.
