Statement Jackets Were Spotted On Every Cool Girl At Copenhagen Fashion Week
From leather bombers to cinched-in denim blazers, statement jackets were spotted on all the style mavens at the SS24 Copenhagen Fashion Week. Whilst the styles of outwear were vast and varied, there was one common thread, the mega shoulder. Scroll on for some of our favourite street style looks from the event, plus, some top picks to buy now and wear right through to the new season.
If Paris is all about effortless, classic style, London is all about hot new designers and Milan about unashamed glamour, Copenhagen Fashion Week is the fashion city to break all the rules. The looks spotted on fashion editors and style influencers are eclectic, to say the least, from uptempo colour palettes to clashing prints and curious laying combinations. They shouldn’t work, but they do and it’s only the Scandi girls who can pull off such a vibe.
We have been excited to see some of the new collections take the the runway, from Ganni to Rotate and Stine Goya, but there’s plenty of action on the streets outside too, as Europe’s top fashion influencers were snapped in some of the best street style we’ve seen in seasons.
Despite it being August, it seems the Danish city is having as dreary weather as London as outerwear popped up as a huge trend, and especially outwear with va va voom shoulders and oversized proportions. Scroll on to see some of our favourites…
The Denim Blazer
Denim has been a huge trend for SS23, from ‘90s baggy jeans to the return of the denim midi skirt, and expect to see a lot more of it in to 2024. We spotted lots of denim pieces in more structured, smarter shapes at Copenhagen Fashion Week, all with OTT big shoulders.
Accentuate the proportions even more by cinching in the waist with a thick belt and keep the rest of the look simple with double denim and point-toe heels. It’s quite an edgy look but we love the way it’s been soften here with a big velvety hair scrunchy.
The Cinched-In Blazer
Bring new life to a trusted blazer by cinching in the waist with a belt or chain. The snatched proportions will give the jacket a more statement shoulder
The Strong Shoulder Blazer
Thanks to brands like The Frankie Shop and great high street iterations at the likes of & Other Stories, the oversized blazer has pretty much become a capsule wardrobe staple as much as it is a trend.
If the streets of Copenhagen Fashion Week are to go by, it looks set to stay, paired with a full suit look like Renia Jaz’s half and half combo, or a little more casual with denim and a silk cami seen here on Justyna Czerniak.
The Frankie Shop is an obvious choice for this oversized shape but we also love Marcella London for a more affordable option with just as impeccably cut tailoring. Or, upcycle an existing blazer by adding in your own shoulder pads.
Oversized Leather & Shearling
Shearling and leather jackets are a perennial favourite, but they’ve gone supersized for the new season. We love them paired with a mini or shorts (another trend spotted on street style stars in the city) and come autumn, they really come in with the practicality factor

No one does the oversized blazer look quite like The Frankie Shop and this inky pinstripe version nails two trends in one as business-esque stripes are set to be everywhere for AW23
