Fashion Influencers to follow

Instagram serves as a bounty of fashion inspiration for most of us, but if you’re tired of the 20-somethings taking over your feed, feel like you’ve already been-the-done-that on the Y2K trend and are looking for impeccably stylish women who sartorially speak to you, scroll on to see our favourite fashion influencers doing style in your 40s so well.

Just to be clear, we’re by no means saying once you pass 40 you’re in some kind of unlikely style camp, quite the opposite. Whilst midlife is by no means old, it is more wise, more experienced and when it comes to clothing, 40 means you’ve lived through three decades of dressing yourself, learning about what you love, what works best for you and, more importantly, what doesn’t.

So we thought we’d give a little shout out to the Instagram stars not in their 20sand 30s (we all know they’re on TikTok anyway!), whose style is worth a getting yourself into a rabbit hole of scrolls. From the Parisian It-girl who seemingly never goes out of style to the New York editor showing how to work colour and print into a more mature wardrobe, these are the Insta stars smashing it when it comes to style in your 40s and beyond.

@mercer7official

Few people have honed their style and religiously stuck to it quite like Mercer 7 AKA Erna Leon. The London-based stylist and influencer has a background in fine art and fashion design and now brings her expert eye to those little squares to share her sartorial tips. Her USP is all about creating a considered, curated wardrobe, with pieces that will work together and transcend seasons.

Expect muted tones, some of the best knitwear finds on Instagram and a tonne of black – Erna rarely ventures into colour territory but it works for her. She is also dedicated to shopping sustainably but with a realistic approach, often seeking out materials on the high street that are better for the planet and new designers that marry style with a conscious ethos.

@erica_davies

This joyful feed from ex-fashion editor Erica Davies sits on the other end of the spectrum embracing colour and print by the bucket load. Her love of a midi dress will please fellow frock fans and her use of print and colour (expect leopard to be a recurring theme) will inspire you to pep up your palette even in the depth of winter.

Erica also veers into the interiors influencer space through sharing her home renovations and canny eye for a great home accessory. As you’d expect there is plenty of colour there too, from her famous green kitchen to her dreamy pastel-hued bedroom.

@tamumcpherson

As well as having an impeccable Insta feed that acts as a constant reel of inspiration, Tamu McPherson is a bona fide fashion insider. Not only is she a photographer and creative director but she leads her own fashion mag All the Pretty Birds and campaigns tirelessly for better representation in the fashion industry. During the Black Lives Matter movement, she called out the world’s leading luxury fashion brands to work with more Black content creators and her efforts have created a ripple effect for more representation in the industry.

Style-wise, expect plenty of colour, epic coats and front-row access to the biggest runway shows.

@carolinedemaigret

It’s no secret we love emulating the effortless looks of Instagram’s French fashion girls and few are as well-dressed as Caroline de Maigret. In a career that’s spanned over 20 years, she’s acted as a muse for Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, written books on Parisian style and had more outfit looks pinned on Pinterest than most. Did we mention she’s a music producer too? Further adding to her cool-girl credentials.

Follow her feed for pared-back elegance – think Breton tops, vintage denim and the iconic Chanel bouclé jacket.

@greceghanem

Now in her fifties, Vogue describes Grece Ghanem as “the Internet’s Queen of Ageless Style,” and we couldn’t agree more. The ex-microbiologist-turned-Insta star is celebrated for embracing a love for fashion at any age, with her kaleidoscopic looks, cult fashion finds and stylish silver bob – a masterclass in championing natural grey hair.

What we love about Grece most is her resistance to the idea that you can’t wear certain things if you’re over 30. Pink velvet knee-high boots? Yes, please. Hot pink leather bombers? Absolutely.

Scroll her feed for a daily dose of joy-inducing dopamine dressing.

@emmarosestyle

Emma Rose Style AKA Emma Thatcher has that knack of finding a cult fashion piece that is set to be huge – quilted The Frankie Shop jacket and Totême scarf coat to name just a couple. But she’s also got a great eye for the high street, choosing well0cut tailored pieces from the likes of COS and ARKET or great knitwear from & Other Stories.

What we love most about her feed is the simplicity and relatability of her mirror shot outfit choices, which serve as daily inspiration on how to get dressed in the morning

@frannynye

Finally, back to Paris and one of the city’s most stylish women, Franny Mozemba. Her look is pulled together and polished with some incredible vintage pieces worked in with cult favourites.

Expect tailored blazers, flattering denim and a flurry of printed dresses, as well as some great makeup look inspiration, too.
