Summer lovin’ happened so fast… Well, perhaps that’s because this is England and our ‘summer’ doesn’t stick around too long. But that’s why this summer (the first without Covid restrictions in three whole years, might I add) we’re making up for all the date nights lost and hitting up every summer date activity in town while the sun is shining. Because nothing says romance like some highly organised fun in the sun, right?

From ice-cream parlour crawls and summer terraces, to shuffleboard, picnicking and shows under the stars, here are 16 perfect date ideas to spend those suh-huh-mer… nah-hiiiiights. Tell me more…

Visit Pergola’s New Mexican Paradise

Want beach-date vibes without leaving London? Pergola, one of the capital’s most loved rooftops, has transformed into a brand new beach club just in time for summer. Taking inspiration from the balmy beaches of Mexico, you and your date are set to enjoy pop-up restaurants from the likes of Crudo Cevicheria and Dos Mas Tacos, an extensive menu of Margaritas and a centrepiece dance floor to boogie the night away.

Expect their usual fool hall-style seating to be replaced with Mexican plants, traditional rattan furniture, hammocks and hanging ornaments. But for the ultimate Mexican beach experience, book one of their cabana-style day beds to set the tone for a perfect date night.

Show Off Your Sporting Skills At London Shuffle Club

Ready to impress? Book a lane at London Shuffle Club when the sun is shining. The game’s easy to learn (so a perfect ice-breaker activity for a first or second date!) and the outdoor terrace means that beers, cocktails and freshly made sourdough pizza are never too far away.

If your date’s going well and you want to keep it going, head down to their secret basement bar, Crazy Eight. The home of table shuffle, Crazy Eight’s a little more intimate than the main venue and is the ideal spot to get to know each other better over a classic Espresso Martini or late night Negroni.

Cosy Up In Front Of An Outdoor Film

Sit back, cuddle up, and get ready to enjoy some of your favourite films in a cinema under the sky as London’s best outdoor cinemas are back with an epic summer line up. Head to the Bussey Building in Peckham or Roof East Stratford ave Rooftop Film Club screen film favourites like Amelie, Jerry Maguire and Pretty Woman. Meanwhile, at a roster of iconic locations such as Chiswick House and Hampton Court Palace, Luna Cinema will be screening the likes of Grease (the perfect summer lovin’ movie for date night), West Side Story and Rocketman.

No need to worry about you and your date getting peckish as there’s plenty of delicious grub up for grabs.

Thought Oxford Street was too busy to take a date? Think again. Because hidden above the bustling streets of the West End lies Aqua Nueva, a secret rooftop oasis located just one-minute from Oxford Circus tube station. The central location is perfect for a pre-theatre date pit stop, and their pre-theatre menu is available from 5-6pm featuring four savoury dishes and one dessert for £32pp (including their sucking pig tacos and churros – yum).

Afterwards head to nearby musical Moulin Rouge, or edge-of-your-seat thriller play 2:22 A Ghost Story for a date night to remember.

Score A Hole-In-One At Battersea Power Station

Want a can’t-go-wrong date? Then mini golf is your answer. I mean, who doesn’t love mini golf? No one I want to go on a date with, that’s for sure.

Head to Battersea Power Station for the par-fect mini golf date under (oh-so-flattering?) neon lights. On Mondays and Tuesdays throughout June, Birdies Battersea are hosting Bae Day, which for £28 gets you a round of crazy-in-love golf & prosecco for two.

And with all that putting bound to make you peckish, there’s a host of alfresco options nearby for post-game cocktails and food. Enjoy delicious Italian cuisine at Fiume whilst sitting on an Amalfi Coast-inspired outdoor terrace; tuck into tasty Spanish sharing plates over a glass of vino at Tapas Brindisa; go all out with £16 bottomless sourdough pizza at Gordon Ramsay Street Pizza; or devour some Mediterranean food and cocktails on Megan’s riverside terrace.

Explore Notting Hill & Sip £5 Picantes

What’s better than a refreshing Picante in stonking hot heat? Nothing, that’s what. For a chilled alfresco date, head over to The Little Yellow Door in Notting Hill for £5 Picantes Wednesday to Friday from 5pm to 8pm.

Their bright terrace is the perfect summer spot for sipping after a romantic stroll around Notting Hill’s cute side streets pretending you’re Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.

Feast On A Picnic In The Park

You can’t beat a classic picnic date in the sun. Treat your date to a lazy afternoon in Kensington Gardens, accompanied by an Afternoon Tea or Picnic Feast from The Milestone Hotel, served in a traditional wicker basket and filled with delicious al fresco fayre.

Expect a selection of delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with Devonshire clotted cream and homemade preserves, French pastries, a smoked salmon and cheese platter, mixed charcuterie and freshly baked bread – all from £95 for two people. Date-day perfection.

Sip Wine By The Thames

Whether it’s drinks overlooking the Thames or a wine tasting, Hithe + Seek sets the perfect scene for a romantic couple’s night in London. But for the perfect date, we recommend doing both. Start the evening inside, sipping on carefully selected wines complemented by food pairings.

And once you’re done, make your way to the main bar area to put your newfound wine knowledge to the test, accompanied by some epic river views.

Get Inspired With A Taste Of Art

Looking for some artsy date night inspiration? Get the creative juices flowing by taking part in an interactive art and design workshop at Bankside Hotel. Your experience will begin learning about the artist in residence’s process and picking up a few creative techniques of your own. Then, you’ll retire next door to Art Yard Bar & Kitchen for a three-course visual feast, surrounded by wall-to-wall art.

The restaurant also has a summer terrace – perfect for soaking up the last of the rays as the sun goes down.

Hire A Pedalo In Regent’s Park

Of all the pedalo locations in all the world, Regent’s Park is my favourite. In summer the park really comes to life, and the views from your little pedalo on the lake are truly stunning. The lake isn’t huge, but you have plenty of space on the water and an hour on it goes by quickly, so pull up a pedal and get to know each other as you meander around.

As you can’t bring food or drink with you, we recommend grabbing an ice cream afterwards and going for a stroll around one of London’s prettiest parks.

Sip Cocktails On A Secret Covent Garden Balcony

Now, this one’s partly my little secret (so don’t you all go running there at once and taking my spot!), but the most perfect balcony terrace in Covent Garden (and in my opinion, all of London) can be found at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

Flipping traditional theatre hours on their head, The Lane is a venue that can be enjoyed all day long. From coffees in The Garden and afternoon tea in The Grand Saloon to theatrical tours of the building. But to top it all off, their balcony which can be found inside The Grand Saloon, is the perfect place for soaking up some cocktails and culture whilst looking over Covent Garden. We recommend making a day of it by booking a Regency-inspired afternoon tea and tour of the building, before whiling away an hour or two on the balcony. They also play some brilliant classical versions of modern pop (Bridgerton soundtrack-style. It’s an all day-date spot that’s sure to impress – especially if they’re a theatre fan.

See Legally Blonde At The Regent’s Park Open-Air Theatre

Ohmigod you guys! You and your date better bend and snap your way to Regent’s Park ASAP because Legally Blonde The Musical has opened at the Open-Air Theatre. The new production is directed by Lucy Moss, co-writer and co-director of the smash-hit musical SIX, so you know it’s going to be an epic show.

We also have it on good authority that cocktail choices at the Open Air Theatre bar include specialty drinks like the OMG & T and the Bend and Schnapps. Combined with the setting of one of London’s most unique and beautiful theatres, it’s well worth a visit and makes for the perfect cultural summer date night activity under the stars.

Go On A Central London Ice-Cream Crawl

Instead of a pub crawl, guarantee a fun day-date in the sun by making your way through Central London’s finest ice-cream establishments. From Chin Chin Dessert Club in Soho serving up salted caramel sticky toffee pudding topped with chocolate ice cream & buttery hazelnut sand, to Covent Garden’s Milk Train and their iconic candy floss ice-cream cone, you’ll find most of London’s best ice-cream parlours are all within a short walk of each other. Perfect for a walking-and-talking date, and so much more delicious than your average pub crawl.
