Whether it’s thrillers like Hijack , comedies like The Beanie Bubble or upcoming shows like Lessons in Chemistry, AppleTV+ has become one of the best places to get your streaming fix in 2023. That’s why we’re excited about their upcoming project The Changeling, a horror fantasy series starring LaKeith Stanfield (Atlanta) and based on Victor LaValle’s book of the same name.

What’s The Changeling about?

Apollo Kagwa (Stanfield) is in a happy, fulfilling relationship with his girlfriend Emma (Clark Backo), and the couple has just welcomed their first child into the world. Having grown up with an absent father, Apollo is determined to be a good dad to his newborn and is adjusting to the changes parenting will bring as he juggles his job as a used book dealer.

But Emma has started acting strangely. She is withdrawn, shows little to no interest in their child and appears to be struggling with post-partum depression. However, her issues seem to be more severe and stem from something else. In the synopsis of the series and the novel, it’s mentioned that Emma suddenly commits a shocking and horrific act- to say what would give too much away- and suddenly vanishes without a trace.

Apollo is left alone and distraught, and The Changeling follows where he goes next: across New York City, searching for answers and Emma’s location. Things go in unexpected directions as Apollo’s odyssey becomes a surreal and death-defying adventure and discovers the truth.

Who else stars?

In the cast of characters are Lillian Kagwa (Adina Porter), the mother of Apollo, and Alexis Louder (The Terminal List) as a younger Lillian.

Rapper and musician Samuel T. Herring meanwhile plays William Wheeler, a man who meets and quickly befriends Apollo, and shares something of a common goal of winning back his wife and children, and Amirah Vann (How To Get Away With Murder) as Emma’s sister Kim. Malcom Barret (Timeless) and Jared Abrahamson (Fear The Walking Dead) meanwhile play Apollo’s best friend Patrice and father Brian West, respectively.

When will it be released?

The Changeling is currently scheduled to premiere its first three episodes together on 8th September, followed by 5 more weekly instalments. There’s no trailer yet, but one should be just around the corner, and we’ll keep you updated when it releases.
