The Gentlemen Is A Stylish New Crime Series Coming To Netflix

18th December 2023 | By Rufus Punt

Gangsters, crime and wicked style- not many do it better than Guy Ritchie, director of films like Snatch and Sherlock Holmes. It’s not a surprise then that Netflix is keen to bring his new series The Gentlemen, a spin-off series of his 2019 film of the same name to its platform next year. In a year already packed with new crime shows like Griselda, Fool Me Once, The Gentleman looks set to be a must-watch.

What is The Gentlemen about?

Netflix’s new series is set in the same world as Ritchie’s previous film, except without the main cast that included Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, Charlie Human, Hugh Grant and Michelle Dockery. Instead, it introduces us to a whole new group of characters, led by Eddie Horniman (The White Lotus star Theo James), the son of a rich aristocrat who he’s been estranged from for some time. Despite this, he is told that he will inherit his father’s estate and is all set to step into an aristocratic lifestyle, before he realises that the money and properties are tied up with a drug business. It also turns out that Eddie isn’t the only one trying to get his hands on this newfound wealth- several gangs, criminals and other elements of the underworld of Britain come crawling out of the woodwork to take a slice.

What else do we know?

Naturally, as Netflix’s synopsis explains, Eddie sets about defending his claim to the estate by getting his hands dirty in the world of crime and “playing the gangsters at their own game”. But this lifestyle change might be hard to shake off as he finds that enjoys being a criminal. Joining Theo James in the cast of characters are Daniel Ings (I Hate Suzie, Lovesick), Kaya Scodelario (The Pale Horse, Crawl), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian), Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Joely Richardson (The Turning) and Peter Serafinowicz (John Wick: Chapter 2).

When does it release, and is there a trailer?

The Gentlemen is set to arrive on Netflix next year, though the streamer hasn’t yet announced a definite release date. A trailer also hasn’t dropped yet, though Netflix has given us a glimpse of what to expect with some first-look photos showing our characters in action. Guy Ritchie meanwhile commented “The world of The Gentemen is a little bit of me… …I am excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast.” Stay tuned for more info in the months ahead.
