Jennifer Garner Is Back For The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 And The Stakes Are Even Higher

Jennifer Garner is making her TV return this month with season 2 of The Last Thing He Told Me, following the hit first season in 2023. It follows on some years later from that season’s finale, with Garner’s character Hannah and her stepdaughter Bailey (Angourie Rice) stunned when Hannah’s husband reappears after five years’ absence, leaving them questioning everything. Whether you binged season 1 or are new to the series, here’s everything you need to know:
What’s The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 about?
First, a quick recap- season 1, based on the book of the same name by Laura Dave, saw our lead character Hannah go through a crisis when her husband Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) suddenly disappeared without explaining anything, leaving only a note with the mysterious words “protect her”. Hannah was then forced to repair her relationship with her stepdaughter, Bailey, and work with her despite their fractious relationship, in order to find Owen and why he left them. They soon discover (spoilers!) that Owen had become embroiled in a sinister crime syndicate, and ran away with Bailey when she was a child to escape.

Now, five years after his sudden disappearance, Owen arrives back in their lives, and Hannah and Bailey find that things are far from over. Season 2 is based on Laura Dave’s recently released sequel novel, The First Time I Saw Him, picking up where we left off. There’s not much time for a happy reunion, though, as it’s clear that the family isn’t out of danger yet. Apple TV is keeping plot details closely to their chest, but the trailer for the new season indicates that unknown dangerous forces- no doubt related to Owen’s secretive past- are out to target Hannah and her family. She’s seen attacking an assailant at her house after receiving an ominous message on her phone, and it’s clear she’ll be pushed to the limit. The trailer closes with her husband asking, “If you knew then everything you know now, would you do it all over again?”Can she fully trust Owen after everything?
Sounds intriguing! What else is there to know, and when can I watch?
The new season will introduce a number of new faces to the cast, including Judy Greer (The Long Walk), Luke Kirby (The Marvellous Ms Maisel), and John Noble (Severance). It arrives on Apple TV+ on 20th February, and you can watch the trailer below.
