Jennifer Garner Stars In A Gripping New Series From Apple TV+

We love it when a bestseller is adapted into a big-budget TV series – with shows like The Big Door Prize, A Gentleman In Moscow and Fool Me Once being at the top of our watchlists for the coming months. So we’re definitely excited for Apple TV+’s upcoming series The Last Thing He Told Me, starring Jennifer Garner, to arrive on the streaming service on 14th April. It follows the story of a woman who has a tenuous relationship with her teenage stepdaughter but must strengthen it in order to find her missing husband.

The Last Thing He Told Me is based on the 2021 mystery thriller novel of the same name, written by Laura Dave. The book shot to the number 1 slot on The New York Times Bestseller List, and became a book sensation, remaining on the list for 65 weeks. The book and the Apple adaptation centre on Hannah, played by Garner in the show, a woman whose husband suddenly and dramatically disappears. But Owen Michaels’ (Game of Thrones‘ Nikolah Coster-Waldau) vanishing act seems to have been pre-planned, as he left a note for his wife of one year to find: “Protect her.” Hannah instantly realises that this note refers to her stepdaughter Bailey (Mare of Easttown’s Angourie Rice), who tragically lost her mother at a young age and is cold and resentful toward Hannah.
Your husband disappearing and being left with your untrusting stepdaughter is difficult enough, but things become more complicated for Hannah when the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, and show up at her home. Things aren’t all as they seemed with Owen, and Hannah starts connecting the dots that her missing husband lived a lie. Hannah begins to try and form a better bond with Bailey, as they both begin to realise that they need to come together if they’re going to find Owen and have anything of a future. As Hannah starts to look for the truth and uncovers the past of the man she thought she knew, she realises that Bailey might have more of an idea of the real Owen than she realised, and why he would have disappeared.

Also starring in the show are Aisha Tyler (Archer, Criminal Minds), Victor Garber (Sicario) and Augusto Aguilera (The Predator). Alongside Garner herself, Reese Witherspoon is an executive producer through her production company Hello Sunshine, and the show is directed by Olivia Newman, who helmed last year’s Where The Crawdads Sing.
