The Residence Is A New Mystery Series From The Creator Of Bridgerton
We love a good mystery series, especially one that’s produced by Shonda Rhymes, who produced Bridgerton, Inventing Anna, Grey’s Anatomy and more. The Residence, which is coming to Netflix later this year, is an intriguing whodunnit set at The White House, after one of the staff there is found murdered.
Starring Uzo Aduba (Orange Is The New Black), Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul) and Randall Park (Always Be My Maybe), the dramedy follows an eccentric detective who arrives in Washington to solve the case.
What is The Residence about?
Mysterious murders are shocking enough- but they’re truly unbelievable when they occur at what is supposed to be one of the most secure buildings in the world. The Residence begins with a routine and important White House event, a lavish state dinner honouring an international leader, being interrupted when a staff member is murdered during it. The building where the president lives and works isn’t exactly small either, with 132 rooms to scout for clues, and 157 potential suspects, meaning anyone who investigates has their work cut out for them. Cue the arrival of Cordelia Cup (played by Uzo Aduba), a detective who’s as eccentric as she is brilliant, and who seems to be the only person with the skill to solve the case.
Cupp, described by Netflix as being a Sherlock-like consulting detective and the most renowned in the world, is paired up with FBI investigator Edwin Park (played by Randall Park). He might know that Cordelia is highly regarded, but he’s still sceptical of her methods and taken aback by her often unexpected quirks. But the two learn to work together as they gather evidence as to who killed the White House chief usher A.B Wynter (Esposito), racing against time as the eyes of the media and the President are on them. The trailer begins with Cordelia putting it simply: “Mr President, this house needs to be treated like a crime scene.” As she begins interrogating the staff, we see her being questioned repeatedly on her thoughts, hunches and methods, but you get the sense that she’s holding her cards close to her chest.
Who else stars, and is there a release date?
Of course, a series like this calls for a big cast, which is set to also include Susan Kelechi Watson (This Is Us), Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl), Ken Marino (High Potential), Molly Griggs (Succession) and Isiah Whitlock Jr (The Wire). Intriguingly, The Residence also features a guest celebrity appearance from Kylie Minogue, playing herself and who’s apparently a guest at the White House dinner. You can see how the mystery unravels yourself when the show lands on Netflix on 20th March.
