If there’s one thing I can’t resist buying every spring summer, it’s a white dress. Chic and elegant, no other single item can make you feel more feminine. Plus, its luminance really does have complexion-boosting abilities. What’s not to love?! Here’s our pick of the best, starting from £24.99.

& other stories

White is known to be an inherently positive colour. It’s association with purity and innocence make it instantly beguiling and its light-reflecting qualities give it the ability to illuminate your skin. Yes, really.

Throw in the way it compliments a tan (fake it ’til you make it), and all the beautiful dress iterations that are being offered up by our favourite high street and designer dress brands, and I’m finding it nye on impossible to resist the temptation of buying at least one – probably more – of this seductive summer staple.

Adapted to linen, it becomes the coolest beach cover-up, or poolside throw-on. In any form of cotton it makes for the perfect puff-sleeve prairie dress to be skipping through London’s blossom-tree-lined parks. Broderie anglaise brings all the unabashed femininity and given a cuff and collar, there is no fresher wardrobe basic. Time and time again it proves its unwavering worth as an essential part of spring summer dressing.

The reality probably involves a rogue splash of coffee here and there, but I’ll happily take my chances. In white, I feel instantly refreshed and infinitely more feminine.

So for now, I’ll be buying into my mind’s eye (accurate or not) in which I’ll gracefully waft my way through the remains of spring, and all of summer, in serene, immaculate and brilliant white frocks.
