While we’re a little bit obsessed with London’s theatre scene, it doesn’t mean there aren’t some amazing touring theatre shows popping up across the UK. We’ve taken a peek at the top touring theatre shows coming to a theatre near you, from Swan Lake to Titanic The Musical.
Touring theatre shows to look out for
Ballet’s greatest love story returns to the stage this spring thanks to Birmingham Royal Ballet’s revival of Sir Peter Wright and Galina Samsova’s journey into Swan Lake.
The ballet production will be touring across the UK, allowing audiences to fall back in love with the lavish production, Tchaikovsky’s iconic live score and dancers bringing the romance to life. The tour will include guest performances from two of the world’s finest contemporary performers, Vadim Muntagirov performing as Prince Siegfried at Theatre Royal Plymouth on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th March and Polina Semionova performing as Odette and Odile at Birmingham Hippodrome on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th February.

Titanic the Musical
You fell in love with James Cameron’s 1997 film adaptation of Titanic, and now you can your romance fix courtesy of the touring Titanic the Musical.
This spring-summer season, catch the stirring production that’s based on the real people aboard the RMS Titanic before it collided with an iceberg on April 14th 1912. The musical brings the stories, hopes, dreams and aspirations of the passengers aboard the ship, from the Third Class passengers coming to America and dreaming of a better future to the First Class aristocrats with legacies that they hoped would last forever.

The Spongebob Musical
Perfect for the little ones, The Spongebob Musical will see all of your favourite underwater friends face trouble.
Taking over the likes of Southampton, Birmingham, London, Norwich and more, join Spongebob and the Bikini Bottom gang as their whole livelihoods faces destruction. As you’d expect, chaos erupts and it’s left up to one unexpected hero to save the day.

Based on the 1992 film version starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act returns to the stage this year. Follow disco diva Deloris as her life is thrust upside down after witnessing a murder. Having been placed under protective custody, she is hidden in a convent and becomes part of the struggling choir.
The touring theatre show features original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted), with songs influenced by Motown, soul and disco.

The Lion King
Disney’s loveable tale about the lion cub forced to leave his home and return later to reclaim his throne has headed on tour across the UK. Jam-packed with bursting colours, stunning effects and enchanting music, it’s hardly surprising the show has gone on to win award after award over its 24-year span at London’s Lyceum Theatre.
Directed by Julie Taymor, cheer on Simba from the stalls this year following as he fulfils his destined role as King of the Pridelands.

My Fair Lady
Following its successful West End run, My Fair Lady is setting off on a UK adventure. Complete with all of the lavish sets, beautiful costumes and brilliant performances, this production includes a score from Frederick Loewe and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner.
The production will follow the young cockney lass who happens to meet Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who thinks he can teach anyone to speak in the proper way. As they get to work, we soon wonder who it is that’s actually doing the teaching…

The Ocean at the End of the Lane
Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, The Ocean at the End of the Lane has been adapted by Joel Horwood and will chart the thrilling adventure between fantasy, myth and friendship. Blending magic with memory, the story follows a man returning to his childhood Sussex farmhouse home and the pond he used to play.
Transported back to his 12th birthday, he reimagines the pond as the ocean, where everything was once possible. He’s plunged back into the magic, forced to reckon with ancient forces that threaten to destroy everything around him.

Birds and Bees
A brand new play by critically acclaimed writer Charlie Josephine (I, Joan, Shakespeare’s Globe), Birds and Bees explores themes of identity, consent, sex positivity, online safety and intersectionality.
Having launched digitally during the 2020 lockdown, watched by over 500 schools across the UK, this play is heading on stage in collaboration with Sheffield Theatres.
It follows a group of teens who have to confront their differences and realise their power to create change.

Six The Musical
A history lesson and a musical all rolled into one? Count us in. Behold Six the Musical, a hilarious retelling of Henry VIII’s six wives.
Following its successful run in West End, the musical will be heading on tour across the UK, hitting stages in the likes of Aberdeen, Norwich, Oxford, Cambridge and Glasgow.
Expect the historical elements to be intertwined with a flash of 21t century girl power.
