white lamps

Overwhelmed by colour? Done with chintz? Then look to simple, pared-back pendants, lamps and shades in crisp whites to add minimalist drama.

There’s a lot of fabulous, flamboyant colour around this season, so unsurprisingly a considerable amount of dopamine dressing chat is to be expected. However, perhaps your hit of happiness comes from understated muted tones; less of the vibrant pinks and reds, more of the beige, creams and whites. In which case, you’re going to revel in the latest trend for all white lighting.

The designs we’re seeing are sculptural, architectural even. Striking shapes made all the more unique as a result of their monochrome finish. This is all about the no-fuss finish, which ironically has caused plenty of fuss in interior design circles. The notable revival of mid-century decor has helped, as iconic Louis Poulsen classics are once again favourites. Created by designer and architect, Verner Panton, back in 1971 with Louis Poulsen, the Panthella has become one of the Danish brand’s most significant pieces of decorative lighting. The soft mushroom silhouette and atmospheric, non-glare light helped secure this as a design icon.

The Panthella Mini table light: the iconic hemispherical acrylic shade was designed by Verner Panton to work with the base to reflect and diffuse light, providing comfortable ambient lighting wherever it is placed.

For authentic retro looks, get hunting on vintage sites, like Vinterior or Pamono. For a fresh take, check out the latest high street drop including Zara’s ‘60s-inspired table lamp or the H&M pleated paper light (see below). Alternatively look to contemporary designers, like Kathleen Hills, who specialises in the most stunning bone china shades.

Each white lamp is unique in its own way; simple yet outstanding. Set against a backdrop of Scandinavian decor, these luminaires radiate warmth, but will also bring a drop of calm amidst bold colours. Think of these as small works of art, without compromising on quality, you are bringing both function and ambience to your home.
