Who Killed Jill Dando: Netflix’s New Doc Revisits One Of Britain’s Most Infamous Murder Cases
Netflix makes some of the best documentaries around. This year alone we’ve had devastating exposés like Take Care of Maya, celebrity stories including Pamela: A Love Story and unsolved cases like MH730: The Plane That Disappeared. Who Killed Jill Dando?, their newest docuseries landing today, falls into that last category.
It revisits the murder of Jill Dando, a BBC newsreader and presenter who was found dead at her home in London, prompting a huge investigation that found no definitive culprit. The series recounts the beloved presenter’s life and tries to piece together the case to find an answer.
What is Who Killed Jill Dando about?
The series features interviews with Dando’s family and friends, other journalists at the time who knew her and the investigative team involved with the case, as they recount the events around a murder investigation that grabbed headlines.
Jill Dando rose to prominence with her work at the BBC, presenting breakfast shows and the BBC’s flagship Six O’Clock News, as well as shows like Crime Watch. She had become a recognisable face and a much-loved star of British TV, winning awards and viewers.
One morning in April 1999, she was found dead just outside her house, aged 37. She had been shot with a single bullet in broad daylight. The shocking nature of her death resulted in huge coverage and a massive police investigation.

As well as remembering the woman herself, each episode examines the theories surrounding her killing, with the case remaining unsolved.
The official trailer for the show released by Netflix begins with a short snippet of an archive police interview interrogating a suspect, before showing a montage of Dando’s career.
It also gives an insight into just how high profile the case became, with an investigator explaining, “everyone had a theory about who was responsible.”
Barry George, who was imprisoned and later acquitted of the murder, appears and recounts his experience in the investigation. Ultimately, the series ponders how the case remains unsolved, even after 24 years.
