Zendaya Just Wore Fashion’s Most Divisive Shoe

Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach have never been shy about pushing the boat out on the red carpet, but their off-duty looks deserve just as much attention. Over the weekend, the actress stepped out in fashion’s most divisive shoe, the Maison Margiela Tabi. Here’s a closer look at the whole outfit.
The look
Zendaya took to the Paris streets in relaxed light-wash denim and a simple white tee, but it was the finishing touches that stole the show. She layered a chic black leather trench over the top and finished the look with a pair of heeled slingback Tabis.
Arguably fashion’s most divisive shoe, the Margiela pumps are instantly recognisable thanks to their split-toe design, which nods to traditional Japanese tabi socks. First introduced by Martin Margiela in 1988, the shape has since become a house signature that still sparks debate more than three decades later. The heeled slingback version softens the look slightly, keeping the quirky silhouette while adding a touch of polish that works just as well with denim as it does on the red carpet.

The internet reacts
True to Tabi form, the look has been quick to get fans talking. One was quick to comment in all caps, “TABI WEDGES!!??? Please take my credit card away”, while another added, “She wore Tabi wedges and a leather trench coat, so now I gotta buy them.”
Others also wrote, “She definitely has that 90s aura about her”, and “Those shoes, I need them!”
