Their catwalk presence has been noteworthy, with everyone from Hailey Bieber to Alexa Chung adopting the polarising shoe trend. Your options are either sleek and minimal or chunky and statement-worthy, both of which have been constant within the wardrobes of multiple fashion influencers.

Jewellery designer Stella Simona exudes minimal chic in her Emme Parsons ‘Ernest’ fisherman sandals. The pair is named after Ernest Hemingway, the author of the novel, ‘The Old Man and the Sea’. Made from strips of supple, vegetable-tanned leather, they will look amazing with everything from jeans to floaty dresses.
The Row’s Italian-made versions are modelled on traditional fisherman styles featuring basket-woven uppers. In this instance, the label used strips of textured leather set on wooden soles. Similarly, other designers, including Emme Parsons and Grenson, have used either leather, rubber or vegan alternatives in a lattice effect to create the coveted cagey flats.
