Sadly our bank holiday streak is coming to an end, with this weekend being the last three day weekend until August (cries), so it’s important to make the most out of it by partying it up at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, tuning into all of the virtual floral events courtesy of Chelsea Flower Show and Belgravia in Bloom, and listening to The 1975’s latest album drop.
Here’s to another three day weekend, it’s going to be a good’un.
Virtual festivals may just be my new favourite thing. Forget traipsing through muddy fields, join in with all of the fun of the festival on your sofa this weekend as Radio 1’s Big Weekend returns.
Radio 1 has delved deep into their archives from past festivals, as well as bringing new live performances to the table, to bring us three days jam packed with festival favourites. The incredible line-up includes: Sam Smith, Haim, Jonas Brothers, Biffy Clyro and Ellie Goulding.
When: Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th May
May is my favourite time of year. It’s when we really see London bloom in all of its glory, from floral festivals to street parties, park picnics to street performances. This May things are looking a whole lot different but we can still delight in some of the simplest of pleasures. One being that fact that The Chelsea Flower Show has gone virtual.
Running until Saturday, take part in everything from virtual floristry sessions to potting demonstrations, virtual tours of famous gardeners, designers and florists’ gardens to Q&A with an RHS expert.
When: Monday 18th – Saturday 23rd May
Following on the floral streak… Right now, we can’t enjoy this marvellous month as we would usually but the wonderful team behind Belgravia in Bloom, London’s largest free flower festival, is heading into the virtual world to bring their adorning floral streets to Insta for all to enjoy.
Running until 25th May, you’ll be able to celebrate at home by partaking in flower arranging tutorials, Q&As and you might even pick up a few gardening tips along the way too. All of the local retailers have been getting involved too, including Dominique Ansel who has created three desserts inspired by the floral beauty. Order some in for a real bank holiday treat.
When: Monday 18th – Monday 25th May

Missing being able to nip out for a quick breakfast or bit to eat in the evening? The wonderful team at 26 Grains are bringing their nutritious breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes to you through their new delivery box scheme.
Perk up your week by ordering in one of their boxes for the bank holiday weekend. We love their market box, that comes with everything you need for a dreamy summer lunch and dinner for two. Ingredients include: 1/2 roast chicken with fennel, orange and olive; butter head lettuce salad and house vinaigrette; Baron Bigod brie; rosemary focaccia; house gazpacho; and meringues, cream and rhubarb elderflower compote.
Despite the extortionate prices, watered down fizzy drinks and consistent smell of sugary popcorn filling the air, we’re really missing the cinema right now. Bank holidays were made for the locations, with a huge film drop always perfectly timed for them. While we can’t go see the latest release in cinemas right now, film buffs and cinemas have joined forces to bring the cinema experience to the home. From live Q&As with directors and actresses to celebrity faces introducing films, we’ve rounded up seven of our favourites that everyone should join during lockdown.
If you love Gillian Anderson as much as we do, you’ll want to tune into the National Theatre at Home’s next performance, starring the award-winning actress, in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’.
Anderson stars as Blanche DuBois, a young woman whose world collapses before her eyes, so she decides to move in with her sister (Vanessa Kirby) and brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski (Ben Foster). Only Kowalski isn’t as taken to her as she had first hoped.
Some scenes contain sexual abuse and violence.
When: Thursday 21st – Wednesday 28th May
Burnt out by constantly having to decide what to listen to next? Google’s Nest Sessions have you covered this weekend with their mood-lifting music and chatty conversations with a selection of exciting UK music artists.
Hosted by Laura Whitmore, Nest Sessions will transform your mood from overdrive into energised with home sessions from Jessie Ware, Olly Alexander, Celeste, Sam Tompkins and Mae Miller. Tune in for the ultimate three day living room party.
When: Saturday 23rd – Monday 25th May, from 10am

A weekend was never a weekend without hitting up one of your favourite brunch spots and a lockdown weekend shouldn’t be any different! We’ve rounded up 11 of our favourite brunch restos that are delivering their goods to your doorstep.
Can you think of a better way to spend your bank holiday weekend?
What may seem like a simple Netflix narrative about a couple madly in love is far from its truth. Michael Showalter’s The Lovebirds, starring Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae, follows Jibran and Leilani who unconventionally end up at the brunt of a murder mystery scene. On a mission to not wrongfully be convicted of the crime, the couple set out to solve the murder and in the process find out some home truths about their own relationship.
Release Date: Friday 22nd May
Not a band to do things by halves, The 1975 is always reinventing themselves and their brand new album, Notes On A Conditional Form is no different. Although the album has had a rocky road on the critical front, with The Independent hailing it as a “parade of smug self-indulgence”, on this epic 22 track album expect each one of these songs to tell a narrative about the lyricist and frontman, Matt Healy and his journey into becoming the music hero millions adore today.
Release Date: Friday 22nd May
