Screen cap from House of the Dragon

If you’re like us, you’ve probably been eagerly following House Of The Dragon , the epic prequel series to fantasy drama Game of Thrones. While HOTD has been making a splash of its own and creating a keen following, further adventures in Westeros are still to come. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, also a prequel to the original blockbuster series, is currently in development at HBO and has just begun filming in Ireland. It’s set 100 years before GOT and is set to arrive in 2025. Here’s what to know.

What is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms about?

Another chapter in the expansive fantasy world that originated in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on the writings of George R. R. Martin. It takes much of its plot from his short story The Hedge Knight, and is set before Game of Thrones but after House of the Dragon’s time period. A sequel to GOT starring Jon Snow was recently shelved by HBO, but instead, we’ll be getting a third series based on the books with a whole new set of characters for the screen. One of the key players is Ser Duncan, played by Peter Claffey (Bad Sisters), a knight, described in the books as being very tall as well as extremely humble. You can glimpse him in the first official image released of the series.

The series is set to follow the brave knight in his adventures, alongside his short and bald squire, nicknamed Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). You can expect much of the same fantasy violence and politics of the other two series, with the official synopsis being: “Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

Who else stars?

Other cast members set to appear in the series include Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country), Bertie Carvel (The Sister), Tanzyn Crawford(Tiny Beautiful Things), Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen) and Sam Spruell (Legend). There’s no definitive release date beyond “2025”, nor a trailer, but for now the first look image and Season 2 of House of Dragon should keep us occupied until A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms arrives.
