Alice & Jack

Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient) and Andrea Riseborough (Matilda the Musical) are teaming up for a new Channel 4 series that’s got us very excited. Alice & Jack is a romantic drama starring the actors as two people who cross paths and form an instant connection. Their growing love for each other seems unshakeable, but their relationship may not be able to last forever.

The series is written by award-winning writer Victor Levin and also stars Aisling Bea (Greatest Days) and Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education). Here’s what we know so far…

What is Alice & Jack about?

Alice & Jack is created and written by Victor Levin, known for his work on Mad Men and Mad About You, and is set to star Gleeson as Jack and Andrea Riseborough as Alice.

Our two protagonists meet one day out of the blue, and as they do so make an instant connection, which swirls into a passionate romance. Both of them seem perfectly suited to each other, so much so that it seems impossible that that initial bond could ever fall apart. But the two start to find that they have emotional complexities and issues in their lives that threaten to damage their blossoming relationship.

What else do we know?

Though there are no details as to what the complications that stand in their way are, Riseborough commented that “this story is for anyone who could or couldn’t make the sacrifice that love demanded, for anyone who battles and accepts the one who makes their soul soar.”

Gleeson said that “Alice and Jack keep coming back to each other because they can’t help themselves…Their story centres on connection and love in the most beautiful way and reminds us that we are always allowed to smile – even if it’s through the tears.” It certainly sounds like the series is going to take us on quite an emotional rollercoaster.

Who else stars?

We also don’t know what roles Aisling Bea and Aimee Lee Wood will play, other than they’ll be supporting characters in Alice & Jack’s whirlwind story.

The series is also set to star comedian Sunil Patel , who appeared in This Time with Alan Partridge and Brian and Charles. Channel 4 has teased that while the show will have its more emotional moments, it’s also “Honest, intimate, and surprisingly funny.”

There’s no official trailer yet, but the channel has revealed a first look at our two main characters, showing Gleeson and Riseborough gazing affectionately and thoughtfully at each other.

Is there a release date?

Alice & Jack doesn’t have an official release date just yet but is set to arrive on Channel 4 sometime later this year.
