Love Mysteries? You’ll Love Paramount+’s New Mystery Drama, The Burning Girls

Fan of enveloping mystery series that keep you guessing until the end? The next few months see the release of The Changeling on AppleTV+, Fool Me Once on Netflix and The Woman in the Wall on the BBC, and if you can’t get enough of twisty-turny dramas, then this new addition might be one for you…
Paramount+’s new series The Burning Girls stars Samantha Morton (The Whale) and Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co.). It tells the tale of a mother and daughter who move to a small remote English village, trying to find a new life after tragedy. This sleepy village however has more to it than meets the eye.
What’s The Burning Girls about?
The Burning Girls is based on the 2021 novel of the same name by C.J. Tudor, and stars Morton as Reverend Jack Brooks. The reverend and her daughter Flo (Stokes) live alone, with Jack struggling as a single mother in the aftermath of her husband’s death.
Tragedy has also struck at the church that she is a part of, and so she and Flo leave their home to travel to the small village of Chapel Croft to start a new life. However, the sleepy little community immediately gives off strange and creepy vibes, and both Jack and Flo are unnerved. Despite this, Jack and Flo make an effort to get used to their new home, as they begin to discover its history.

The Burning Girls starts picking up when the two learn that there’s a gruesome backstory to Chapel Croft, when 500 years ago a number of Protestant martyrs were burned at the stake after a betrayal- including two young girls.
Things get even creepier when we learn that two teenage girls disappeared without a trace three decades before Jack and Flo’s arrival, and a few weeks before, the local vicar hanger himself. The village folk unsurprisingly aren’t entirely trusting, and have plenty of conspiracies as to the truth of events- and Jack finds herself unable to resist finding out more. But learning the truth comes with a threat that could potentially put mother and daughter in mortal danger.
Who else stars?
The series is set to also star Rupert Graves (Sherlock), Conrad Khan (Peaky Blinders), Janie Dee (You & Me), David Dawson (My Policeman), Paul Bradley (Holby City) and Jane Lapotaire (Rebecca).
When will it be released?
There’s no trailer for The Burning Girls yet, but it’s set to arrive on Paramount+ later this year.
