A Rivalry Over Wine Is At The Centre Of Apple TV+’s Intriguing New Drama

Apple TV+ has plenty of exciting content this year, like scam thriller Sharper, the Jennifer Garner starring The Last Thing He Told Me, and the upcoming mystery drama City On Fire. Another one of their most intriguing-looking shows that’s just around the corner is Drops of God, an adaptation of a Japanese manga series of the same name about the world of wine. The Apple series revolves around the estranged daughter of a leading wine expert and connoisseur, who finds that she is now the owner of his huge collection, but needs to prove herself to claim it.
The series is led by French actress Fleur Geffrier, known for her roles in Elle and Rogue, and plays the central protagonist Camille. Her father, Alexandre Léger, is estranged from her and the two haven’t seen each other since Camille’s parents separated when she was only nine years old. Living in Paris, Camille is aware of her father’s reputation of being a well known figure in the world of wine tasting and the author of the famed Léger Wine Guide, but is unaware of quite how extraordinary his wine collection is- and nor that it has been left entirely to her. She flies to Tokyo, where Alexandre had been living before his death, and hears his will being read that confirms that she’ll inherit it- but there’s a catch.

Things aren’t destined to go smoothly as Camille is forced to compete to actually claim the collection with a brilliantly talented young wine enthusiast and oenologist named Issei Tomine, who was a protégé of Alexandre and was even called his spiritual son. The two develop a rivalry as Camille resolves to fight for what she believes is rightfully hers. The original Drops of God manga series began in 2004, and followed a similar plotline, becoming critically praised and widely successful, particularly for being accurate on real world wine knowledge
Such a unique story makes for a fresh and thrilling premise for a TV series, and this first season will consisting of eight episodes beginning on 21st April.
