Jude Law And Jason Bateman Play Estranged Siblings In Netflix’s Black Rabbit
There’s a plethora of TV heading our way next year- with shows like Wednesday set to return for another season. We’re also excited, though, for one of Netflix’s new releases that it’s got in the pipeline: the cryptically named Black Rabbit, which stars Jude Law in a New York City-based drama, opposite Jason Bateman. Telling the story of the fractious relationship between two brothers, the series sounds like a must-watch. Here’s all we know so far.
What is Black Rabbit about?
Jude Law has already had a pretty busy time recently, appearing onscreen in the crime thriller The Order, and desert island survival film Eden, but this next role might be the most intriguing. He plays Jake Friedkin, the owner of a successful and popular establishment in the nightlife of NYC. He appears, as you’d expect from Jude Law, to be a smart mover and smooth talker. But his achievements so far in building a life for himself are put under pressure when his brother, Vince (played by Bateman) arrives in the city and gets into contact.
Jake and Vince have had an estranged and fractious relationship from what Netflix has said so far, but Jake reluctantly allows the chaotic and difficult Vince back into his life. Despite being brothers, Jake is concerned about how fast things might unravel, as the unpredictable Vince “opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he’s built.” What exactly these dangers are that so worry Jake is unclear, but a chaotic chain of events is set in motion that could lead to the brothers falling out permanently, as the business is threatened.
What else do we know?
Netflix so far is keeping coy about how the story will overall shape out, but some of the talent involved in the production could offer pointers. Bateman himself will also direct some of the series, as well as actress Laura Linney, who appeared alongside the Arrested Development star in Netflix’s Ozark. Might we see some similar crime-based family drama in Black Rabbit? Don’t bet against it.
The series began filming earlier this year and appears on track to release in the first half of 2025. The cast also includes Cleopatra Coleman (The Last Man on Earth), Amaka Okafor (The Responder), Sope Dirisu (Gangs of London) and Dagmara Domińczyk (Succession). There are no official images or a trailer released, but definitely keep an eye on this one to add to your Netflix watchlist.
