Spy Thriller Spin-Off Citadel: Honey Bunny Is Coming Next Month

23rd October 2024 | By Rufus Punt

Back in April last year, Amazon introduced us to the world of Citadel, the adrenaline-pumping action spy series that starred Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The novel concept behind the show however is that the action wouldn’t stop there: the streaming giant would release multiple spin-off series alongside the main one that would keep expanding the world. The latest of these is Citadel: Honey Bunny, which is set in India. If you’re eagerly awaiting the next James Bond, Citadel is a good way to get your spy fix. Here’s all to know:

What is Citadel: Honey Bunny about?

Like the main parent series, Citadel: Honey Bunny is a big-budget spy thriller set in the world of espionage and undercover agents. As with all the other spin-off shows planned for Citadel, Honey Bunny is filmed in the language of the country it’s set in, in this case, Hindi. It stars Varun Dhawan (October) and Samantha Ruth Prabhu (The Family Man) as spy duo Agent Bunny and Agent Honey. Dhawan’s character Bunny is a stuntman when we meet him, working for a decent living when he meets Prabhu’s struggling actress Honey. The two will be thrown full pelt into the under-the-surface world of spycraft, as they engage in risky acts of espionage. Years later, now having gone separate ways, the two will once again reunite and return as spies as they fight to protect their young daughter, Nadia.

What else do we know?

The series is set in the 1990s, with our two leads going from partners as secret agents, to lovers and the parents of a young child, to an estranged couple. Bunny is described by Dhawan as being a complex and multi-layered character. “Every aspect of his personality has two distinct sides,” he says. Prabhu meanwhile called Honey “one of the most significant roles of my career”, and both are directed under the watchful eye of Indian filmmakers Raj and DK, who were behind the Amazon series The Family Man amongst other projects.

The series is set in the 1990s, with our two leads going from partners as secret agents to lovers.

The series is as with the main Citadel show executive produced by the Russo Brothers, and recently received its first trailer which you can watch below.

Who else stars, and is there a release date?

Citadel: Honey Bunny also stars Kay Kay Menon (Baby), Sikandar Kher (Sense8) and Saqib Saleem (Race 3). It’s set to arrive on streaming on 7th November.
