Has The Next James Bond Finally Been Cast?

Is Aaron Taylor-Johnson set to be the new James Bond? That’s what The Sun is claiming in a new report, saying that the Bullet Train and MCU star has been offered the prestigious role. The race to be the next 007 has been a long one, with plenty of speculation over the years as to who will eventually succeed Daniel Craig, and we might soon be getting our answer.
Who will be the next James Bond?
There’s no official announcement yet, but according to The Sun’s article, citing an unnamed source, Taylor-Johnson will be stepping into the role and following in the footsteps of six other actors to become the seventh official Bond star. The report said that he’d impressed producers with his audition performances and took part in a screentest that went well, and apparently is close to signing on. It’s still not been announced by the Bond studio, EON Productions, but the story has caught on in the media from the BBC to Sky News– so online buzz has been at a fever pitch that we’ll soon finally know.
Who is Aaron Taylor Johnson?
Whether the report is true or not, just who is Aaron Taylor-Johnson? The man tipped to be 007 has made his name with blockbusters Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tenet, Bullet Train and Kick Ass, and has won a Golden Globe for his intense role in Nocturnal Animals. Like his predecessor Daniel Craig, he’s also appeared in a few smaller films to critical acclaim, like 2009’s Nowhere Boy, in which he played another British icon borne out of the 60s in John Lennon. It’s films like Bullet Train, in which he plays suave and wisecracking assassin Tangerine, that have led Bond fans to believe he’d be suitable. And even if he isn’t Bond, Taylor-Johnson has plenty of other work coming up in the future, including Kraven The Hunter and the remake of Nosferatu.

What has the studio said, and when might we see the next Bond?
So far there’s no official comment, and in fact, Bond head honcho Barbara Broccoli, the kingmaker of 007 castings, has recently said that the next film is in the very early stages, and maybe a long way off releasing. James Norton, Sam Claflin, Rege-Jean Page, Richard Madden and even recent Oscar winner Cillian Murphy are names that have been floated to take the role- but we’ll have to wait and see for sure.
