Who will be the next James Bond? No one knows yet- but Amazon is filling in that void for now in its new reality game show that turns contestants into budding 00 agents. 007: Road To A Million sees members of the public compete on a suitably globe-trotting adventure that recreates the many adrenaline rush highs of the beloved spy franchise. It looks like it’ll have the budget to rival Netflix’s Squid Game reality series, and features a bit of British acting royalty in the form of Succession actor Brian Cox as a mysterious question master. Bond fan? Then you’ll not want to miss this.

What’s the premise of 007: Road to a Million?

Rather than literally saving the world, the aim for the contestants is (as the name suggests) to bag themselves £1 million, by completing various challenges inspired by the legendary superspy. One of the big appeals is that rather than being confined to one location, those competing will visit exotic locales around the globe as they go- just like the films. Places set to be included are the highlands of Scotland (where Bond’s family home is located in Skyfall), the streets of Venice (backdrop to scenes in From Russia With Love and Casino Royale), the Atacama Desert in Chile (featured in Quantum of Solace) and of course the majestic Swiss Alps (where Bond skis in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me and The World Is Not Enough).

In addition to physical challenges and obstacles, the 18 contestants (split into pairs) will have to use their brains to answer ten tricky questions from The Controller, a shadowy mastermind of events played by Cox.

Is there a trailer?

Presumably the questions will be Bond related, and the cost of failure is a high one- the official synopsis says that “one wrong move and the adventure is over.” As each question is answered, more and more money is banked, before the lucky winners claim the ultimate prize (and hopefully deliver a campy one liner as they do so). The only proper glimpse we have of the show is from Amazon Prime’s first teaser trailer, which shows off some of the Bond style adventuring: scuba diving, fast cars and a few nods to the films (like the famous crane climbing sequence from Casino Royale). It definitely looks like it’ll capture the spirit of the films, with Brian Cox being the Bond villain that never was.

When does it release?

You don’t have long to wait for some Bond style goodness, as 007: Road to a Million is set to drop on Prime Video on 10th November. Meanwhile, Amazon has already commissioned a Series Two, with applications now open.
