11 Best Luxury Hotels In Scotland

15th March 2025 | By Patrick Dunne

It’s hard to pick what Scotland’s most alluring feature is – the mysterious and arresting lochs? World-class whisky and golf? Historic cities? There’s something to explore for everyone, and its varied landscapes mean it’s the perfect travel destination all year round, whether you want to go hill-walking in the Cairngorms, island hopping in the Hebrides and Skye, or soaking up culture in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

From Michelin-starred restaurants and wildlife-spotting to luxury spas, historic townhouse hotels and monsters steeped in myth, Scotland’s dramatic landscapes are the envy of the rest of the world. Here are our best luxury hotels to book in Britain’s most adventurous holiday destination.

Scotland’s Best Luxury Hotels To Book

Cheval The Edinburgh Grand, Edinburgh

For a perfect city hotel break, look no further than Cheval The Edinburgh Grand in Scotland’s capital. Ostensibly it is an aparthotel, but lacks absolutely none of the luxury of a hotel, and contains several handy room features that should bump it to the top of your list – washing machines are especially appreciated if you’re heading to Edinburgh after an outdoors-heavy stint in the Highlands.

So densely packed is the city, almost everything is within a mere 15 minute-walking distance of its New Town location. Slick and stylish in a historical former bank, amenities also include a 24-hour gym, breakfast, on-site cocktail bar, fully equipped kitchens and – best of all – pets are welcome.

Inverlochy Castle Hotel, Fort William

Romance and mystery abound in this iconic castle hotel, a favourite of Queen Victoria who stayed in the 1800s. Set in the shadow of Ben Nevis, with a world class kitchen run by Michael Roux, history runs through the walls and into the sprawling grounds.

Its grandeur is second only to its geographic convenience to some of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks. As well as Ben Nevis, Inverlochy provides a base to explore the waterfalls and peaks of the obscenely photogenic Glencoe, and go monster hunting at Loch Ness.

Cromlix Hotel, Stirlingshire

This renovated Victorian mansion and estate is the passion project of Kim and Andy Murray, set in acres of secluded Stirlingshire countryside near Dunblane, the Tennis star’s hometown. Its location near Stirling acts as a perfect midpoint between major cities Edinburgh or Glasgow and the Highlands.

Given the ownership, tennis courts, of course, are available, as well as its Glasshouse Restaurant which focuses on fresh, seasonal produce, and a 5-star pool and spa experience. There is also tennis coaching, but sadly we cannot confirm whether or not it will be conducted by Andy Murray himself.

Prestonfield House

Prestonfileld House and athurs seat

Voted Best Hotel in Scotland 2025 by The Good Hotel Guide, Prestonfield House is magic from start to finish. It’s the sister hotel to the more recognised The Witchery by the Castle, Edinburgh, but Prestonfield is just 15 minutes outside of the Scottish capital and comes with just as much, if not more charm. Despite its convenient proximity to the sights and buzz of Edinburgh, you really feel like you’re out in the Scottish countryside, whether that’s the grand drive up to the 1687-built house, the shaggy Highland cattle in the adjacent fields or the fresh air and stunning sights of Arthur’s Seat.

It’s easy to get lost in the charm of Prestonfield, from the delightful doormen who welcome you to the excellent Rhubarb Restaurant celebrating Scottish produce, the multiple sitting rooms filled with tapestries, antiques and roaring fires, the leopard-print carpeted suites to the stunning gardens that sit in the shadow of Arthur’s Seat. This is one Scottish hotel you’ll want to return to time and time again.
