Could You Work With Your Mum? 7 Mother & Daughter Brands That You Need In Your Life This Mother’s Day
What would it be like to work with your mother? Would you scream and shout everyday or would you end up dressing like each other? It probably all depends on whether you channel the easy-going Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn type partnership or the more toxic Lindsay Lohan and Dina drama.
It turns out that many a mother-daughter duo have taken the punt to start a business together with very few tantrums or tears to talk about. In fact, it might just be the recipe for a successful brand – after all, who run the world? (Yes, girls).
1. Nue Hoops
Tory, one of the women behind Nue Hoops, has entrepreneurship in her blood. She was one of nine children brought up by her mother Diana Chudley, who set up a conference centre in the 1960s in rural Northamptonshire.
Inspired by this creativity and ingenuity, Tory set up the soft leather baby shoe business Daisy Roots, which she ran and owned for 10 years before selling it. But the idea for Nue Hoops came after attending a jewellery making course in East London in 2018.
Tory started discussing the idea with her two daughters Emily and Camilla, and they joined forces to make her idea a reality. With each of them bringing skills of creativity, marketing and finance to the table, the business has flourished.
Nue Hoops is a sustainable but affordable jewellery company, specialising in charms that celebrate different cultures, people
and destinations. Each of them adds their own personal touch; Tory loves bohemian chic; Emily loves classic and casual; and Camilla adores anything glamorous or playful.

2. Gazelli House
Originally a doctor of genetics and preventative medicine, Dr Hamzayeva spent 40 years studying, identifying and treating the symptoms of chronic illness. In 1999, she founded a skin and physiotherapy treatment centre in Baku, Azerbaijan. Then, in 2004, her daughter Jamila Askarova joined the family business and opened a new incarnation of the idea in South Kensington 10 years later.
Here, alongside skin treatments, guests can enjoy holistic add-ons like massage, as well as listen to panel talks about wellbeing. From facials to fertility and pregnancy therapies, there are a range of experts to offer support and advice.

3. Bernadette
Together Charlotte de Geyter and her mum Bernadette have worked with some of the biggest fashion houses in the world. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Charlotte worked in Simone Rocha’s design studio in London. Her mum on the other hand was a former buyer for Ralph Lauren and a vintage fashion obsessive.
They decided to join forces and launch their own brand in 2018 and the first season saw it land in Net-a-Porter, Browns and Selfridges. Based in Antwerp, they design bright coloured florals in figure-skimming silk and relaxed, tailored satin – womenswear that is chic but playful.

4. Bella & Frank
Daughter Hannah and her mother Lesley, founded childrenswear brand Bella & Frank in 2018. Through their designs they embrace everything they love about nature, from plants to animals. The collections are also about indulging in their creative sides with unfiltered and unadulterated abandon.
This definitely comes across in their campaigns, which are artistically shot and have buckets full of personality. With flora and fauna at every turn, there are sharks on shorts, greyhounds on t-shirts and floral prints aplenty.

6. TLC Sport
Sara started out making leotards for the expats she taught aerobics to in Cairo back in the 80s. After a positive reception, she decided to make it her day job and launch an activewear company in 1986, The Leotard Company. It has since been rebranded to TLC Sport, and her daughter Charlotte joined in 2012 to help grow the business and continue her vision.
The brand is all about building women’s body confidence through flattering and bright activewear. And you can see the passion the pair have in their beautifully edited films and clips that run across their social and website.

7. MaisonCléo
Marie Dewet works alongside her mother Nathalie to deliver seriously sustainable – and slow – fashion. Every piece is handmade-to-order by my Nathalie in her house in the north of France. She sews all of the orders in her workshop from surplus fabrics that come from French Couture Houses, designers and factories or are vintage pieces. There is no packaging and pieces can be tailored to your exact measurements. As such, pieces are only available to purchase during a weekly e-sale.
The company is called Maison Cléo, as Cléo is Nathalie’s nickname. Nathalie always matches her outfit with a scrunchie, so that’s why each order comes with a matching scrunchie made from leftover material.
