Olivia Colman & Brie Larson Team Up For Psychological Thriller Cry Wolf

Academy Award winners Olivia Colman and Brie Larson are both teaming up for a new thriller series from FX, slated to arrive in the near future on Disney+. Cry Wolf stars the two actresses (who also executive produce) as a mother (Larson) who is accused of abuse by her teenager and the social care worker who investigates her (Colman). As the miniseries unfolds, the investigation will throw up conflicting accounts, moral tests as both women discover the limits of how much they can really trust anyone. Here’s everything we know so far:
What is Cry Wolf about?
The series is written and created by Sarah Treem, best known for her work on The Affair, and is partially based on a 2020 Danish series of the same name. Larson (whose character is currently unnamed) plays the mother whose world is turned upside down after her teenage daughter accuses her of abuse. Soon, a social care investigation is launched to discover the truth of the allegations, as the mother reels to understand what went wrong. The social care worker dispatched to survey the family is Colman’s character (also unnamed at present), who arrives and soon finds herself entangled in the family drama. She, of course, needs to be as objective as possible in listening to both sides of the story- but the question arises: Can the claims of children always be trusted?
The abuse allegation is shocking and awful, and Colman’s social worker character knows the costs of coming to the wrong judgment. As she meets the mother, both women will be pushed to their mental limits and breaking points. Expect a tense psychological family drama, and considering Larson has already won an Oscar for a portrayal of a mother, we can’t wait to see what she does here. Colman, meanwhile, recently picked up an Emmy for a guest role in chef dramaedy The Bear (Larson herself also guest starred), while writer Treem’s The Affair won a Golden Globe. Suffice to say, Cry Wolf is being made by an award-winning team.
What else do we know, and is there a release date?
FX’s miniseries is set to be six parts long and will be released via Disney+ for those in the UK. There’s still no definite release date yet, though it could arrive next year, and further cast and plot details are to be announced. Watch this space for more info.
