We’ve still got a while until the four biopics based on The Beatles— starring Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Harris Dickinson, and Joseph Quinn — hit our screens in 2028, but you can still relive The Beatles’ story in an upcoming Disney+ documentary. The Beatles Anthology, a nine-part docuseries releasing this month, follows the Fab Four through their entire career, from their first meeting and forming in Liverpool to their breakup in 1970. Read on for everything you need to know:

What is The Beatles Anthology about?

The new series is a reworked and remastered version of a TV documentary that aired in the 1990s, which, despite being on DVD years ago, has not been available on streaming. Enter Peter Jackson, who previously reworked the rarely seen Beatles documentary Let It Be into the Get Back series on Disney+, which received huge acclaim and attention. The Lord of the Rings director will be applying similar cutting-edge tech to remaster and restore original footage of The Beatles from the ’60s, bringing a new clarity to the story of Paul, John, George and Ringo.

The original anthology project started in the early ’90s, with the remaining Beatles reuniting to record new material and sit down for interviews about their lives. This new version for 2025 will feature much of this footage, and more that has never been seen before. The Beatles’ early lives in Liverpool, performing in Hamburg, their first record, the British Invasion, Sgt Pepper, their travels in India and the fraught breakup- it’s all here in one documentary. There’s also a final episode again focusing on Paul, George and Ringo in the ’90s working on unfinished work left behind by John Lennon, as they reflect on The Beatles’ story.

What else do we know, and when can I watch?

The music itself has been remastered with new mixes from The Beatles’ Apple Corps. Much of this music, and more, will be released in an accompanying Anthology album box set featuring hours of music. There’s also a new 25th anniversary edition of The Beatles Anthology book, described by the band itself as “in effect, The Beatles’ autobiography.” You’ll be able to watch The Beatles Anthology when it comes to Disney+ on 26th November.
