After his acclaimed turns in the award-winning The Bear and heart-wrenching wrestling film The Iron Claw, Jeremy Allen White is stepping into the shoes of quite a different role: The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is another entry into the growing musical biopic genre, and tells the story of the rock musician as he makes the album Nebraska in the early ’80s, soon to become a global superstar. It’s set to release this October- here’s all we know so far.

What is Deliver Me From Nowhere about?

It seems like every legendary musician gets a biopic made about them these days, and this time it’s the turn of Springsteen, being set in the 1980s as he works on Nebraska. Allen White, who’s already had experience in the biopic genre with The Iron Claw, will be channelling the singer’s energetic, firing-on-all-cylinders performance style for the film’s recreation of his live shows, but will also portray the ups and downs of Springsteen’s personal life. The 1982 album, as with much of the musician’s other work, takes inspiration from the lives of blue-collar workers in America, and at the time Springsteen was dealing with ghosts of his past.

Also expected to feature in the movie is, of course, Springsteen’s iconic E Street Band, while Succession star Jeremy Strong will be playing Jon Landau, the singer’s record producer and manager. Meanwhile, the plot will also delve into the “complicated” relationship between Springsteen and his father, Douglas, who’ll be played in the film by Adolescence’s Stephen Graham. Odessa Young (The Order) plays Faye, Springsteen’s love interest.

In the first official trailer for the project, between glimpses of White belting out Born to Run and showcasing his singing mimicry, we also get some idea of the film’s emotional heft: from pensive glances at photographs of his dad, and a kiss with Faye on a carousel. Despite his troubles, we’re assured by the narrating dialogue that he’ll get his album finished and become a true star. The rest of the cast includes Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell) as Mike Batalan, engineer on Nebraska, alongside Gaby Hoffman (Transparent), Marc Martin (The Bad Guys), David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) and Johnny Cannizzaro (Jersey Boys). Deliver Me From Nowhere will release in the UK on 24th October, and you can watch the trailer below.
