Drop Is The New Dating Thriller To Watch

2025 already looks like a good year for original thrillers, with Companion and The Housemaid being just two examples of upcoming releases that have grabbed our attention.
The enigmatically named Drop has joined those: its mystery thriller starring The White Lotus’ Meghan Fahy as a woman trying to get back into the world of dating, only to find there’s a lot more sinister things for her to worry about than just “how to break the ice.” Here’s all you need to know:
What is Drop about?
Drop is directed by Christopher Landon, who previously made horror-comedy Happy Death Day, and takes a by-now familiar film set-up and gives it a twist. Violet (played by Fahy) is a single mother, widowed after tragically losing her partner, and now looking to get back into the world of dating. However, don’t expect much of a Bridget Jones-style look at the modern dating scene, as Drop is a hell of a lot more unnerving. Violet makes a match with Henry, who’s apparently the perfect prospective boyfriend to land, as he’s handsome, charming and generally an ideal man from Violet’s perspective. Her first date in years seems to go perfectly, but the very pleasant evening is wrecked when she suddenly starts getting very strange, threatening messages on her phone.

The messages start off as just an annoyance and some kind of spam, but get more and more terrifying. The sender is an anonymous hooded figure who tells Violet that he’ll murder those she holds dearest: her young son and her beloved sister. Violet is obviously terrified, but is told that she can save her family if she follows the figure’s specific instructions. Able to watch the hooded man on home security cameras, she feels pressured to comply- but her final task is unthinkable: kill the man she’s just been on a date with.
Who else stars, and what else do we know?
Drop’s cast also includes Brandon Skelnar (It Ends With Us), who is also set to star in The Housemaid later this year, alongside Violett Beane (Death And Other Details), Reed Diamond (Better Call Saul), Jeffery Self (Spoiler Alert) and Ed Weeks (The Mindy Project). The twisting, creepy thriller is set to arrive on 11th April.
