If You Buy One Jacket This Season Make It A Fitted Blazer

A good blazer is your golden ticket to pulling a look together and feeling polished. We’ve seen one shape popping up in myriad designer collections and squares of Instagram’s finest. Say hello to the fitted blazer trend, to pair with everything from this season’s barrel-leg jeans to pretty pleated skirts.
Every season, there are some, if not multiple, blazer trends – it’s kind of a fashion non-negotiable. The oversized, borrowed-from-your-dad fit has reigned supreme for years now, adding polish to everything from leather trousers to tracksuits, and whilst we still love a relaxed fit, we’re seeing far more structured, severe shapes coming in.
Nipped in at the waist and often with a power shoulder or an exaggerated, almost horseshoe-like arm, hourglass blazers were spotted in the collections of Chloé, Balenciaga and Wardrobe NYC, to name a few. The high street and mid-market brands have, of course, followed suit and there are plenty of options to choose from at more affordable price points.
Every season, there is a clear blazer trend – it’s kind of a fashion non-negotiable.
On the high street, we love & Other Stories’ oaty peplum style to wear over silky slip skirts, or River Island’s more demure collarless shape that will add an ’80s suit vibe to baggy jeans. If you’re looking to spend a little more, The Frankie Shop’s Colette hourglass blazer comes in a much more exaggerated shape – something the brand does really well – and will easily become the whole personality of your look, even if you’re just pairing it with simple tailored trousers.
When it comes to colour palettes, there’s nothing too wild going on – lots of browns, biscuits, beiges and fresh summer white linens, but if you’re looking for something a little different, we love Meshki’s cinched-in burgundy hue – perfect paired with a shirt and menswear-inspired tie; or Aligne‘s very of-the-moment buttermilk yellow option – a perfect pairing to indigo denim.

We love an hourglass blazer shape paired with casual denim but they also look so elegant when paired with something more polished like a pleated skirt.
The fitted blazer really comes into its own after hours, creating a great evening look with very little effort.
