Spring/summer 25 may feature plenty of florals and sugary pastels, but it’s all about next-level tailoring for those looking for straight-talking fashion. Saint Laurent has brought hard-hitting style back. Think shoulder pads, ties and double-breasted blazers, and say hello once again to the ’80s power suit.

As someone who lives in blazers, I’m all in for this trend. Or should I say, revival? Back in the ’80s and ’90s, the likes of Princess Di and Julia Roberts, who wore Giorgio Armani tailoring to the Golden Globes in 1990, gave a female spin on traditional menswear. More recently, Cynthia Erivo hit the red carpet in a sleek pinstripe suit from Dolce & Gabbana. Similarly, Nicole Kidman – the epitome of power – looked impeccable in a Saint Laurent suit at the Critics Choice Awards. But, possibly the most current iconic look is that of Bella Hadid walking the SS25 runway for Saint Laurent. Her sleek ensemble was an instant hit, with numerous A-listers and fashion folk, from Elsa Hosk to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, emulating the YSL suit.

Victoria Beckham and Ralph Lauren are other designers to embrace this modern take on retro tailoring. It’s effortless yet chic, powerful, and so very cool. On the high street, the likes of River Island, Zara and Mango have nailed the trend with their laid-back iterations. I believe shoulder pads are key, but the ultimate finishing touches must be the ties and chunky earrings. Then, taking the whole look to the next level, an oversized trench will 100% complete your look. Promotion-worthy? Absolutely. Stylish? Most definitely.
