The New Netflix Mystery Crime Thriller To Binge This Month
Already binged through shows like The Last of Us , You, and Extraordinary? Looking for a new series to get stuck into? Fear not: Netflix has plenty of exciting releases on the way this year, and one that’s on our radar is their new original Florida Man, a mystery crime thriller set to sweep you up in the shady world of crime. Executive produced by Ozark’s Jason Bateman and created by Donald Todd, Florida Man centres around a struggling ex-cop who’s pulled into the criminal underworld of Florida after being hired by a Philadelphia mobster.
Édgar Ramírez (The Bourne Ultimatum, Carlos) stars as Mike Valentine, once a cop and now a man struggling with a gambling addiction that he’s slowly recovering from. A native of the Sunshine State, Mike left Florida years ago, but now finds himself heading back to the place he once called home on the request of a mob boss, Moss (Emory Cohen), to find his girlfriend who’s disappeared.
You’ve probably heard of the “Florida Man” meme stemming from news reports of whacky stories involving Florida residents that’s become common parlance on the internet, and Netflix’s series prides itself on Mike getting into situations that live up to the phenomenon. Alligators, for example, seem to be involved in at least one scene judging by the show’s poster, and a seemingly simple job becomes an increasingly wild and weird odyssey across Florida.
While the title and sundrenched visuals are what will grab people’s attention, Florida Man promises to be a genuinely intriguing and gripping mystery thriller that embraces the culture and people of the state. Mike is indebted to Moss and trying to move on and become a better person, but heading back to his hometown offers the all too tempting chance to fall back into old habits.
Alongside him on his bizarre odyssey are Delly (Abbey Lee), Mile’s father Sonny (Anthony LaPaglia), Sherrif Ketcher (Clark Gregg), Benny (Isiah Johnson) and Iris (Lex Scott Davis). The trailer, which you can watch above, tells you pretty much everything you need to know, and shows off plenty of the show’s Floridian excesses.
Florida Man is set to arrive on Netflix on 13th April
