One of Netflix’s most popular shows is back for its third season: Heartstopper reunites us with Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) and their blossoming relationship. The two of them, as the months go by, are getting closer and closer, and there’s a sense this time around that they’re growing up. It won’t all be plain sailing- but this series based on the graphic novels by Alice Oseman proves to be as hard to resist as ever.

What is Heartstopper Season 3 about?

Heartstopper continues to follow the lives of Nick and Charlie, two boys falling in love with each other and exploring their queer identities. The pair of them are now reaching adulthood, and leaving their childhoods and adolescent years behind them- both have their own desires, needs, and ambitions for where life should take them next. There are events and parties that they need to plan, friends they need to keep up with, and the looming decision of which unis they will end up applying for, not to mention the exams to get in.

Writer Oseman has said that in the new season “we are doing something that will feel very different, and people will be surprised, and I can’t wait.” Aside from new thematic explorations and some more explicit content (the show is maturing along with its two leads), Netflix has confirmed a couple of other ways the show is changing. For one thing, Ben, played by Sebastian Croft, won’t be back this time around, but he’s been replaced by a few new characters being introduced.

Marvel and Mission Impossible star Haley Atwellwill play a less action-oriented role in this show as Nick’s aunt, Diane. Diane is keen to take her beloved nephew off to the sunshine and sights of Menorca but also wants to give him some firm and tough advice about relationships. Geoff, a fan-fave character from the graphic novels, is Charlie’s wise therapist and is played by The Thief, The Wife and His Canoe star Eddie Marsan. Jonathan Bailey of Bridgerton fame will also be in the Heartstopper mix as Jack Maddox, a classicist known on Instagram.

Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Tobie Donovan and Jenny Walser are all returning to reprise their roles this season which you can start streaming on Netflix.
