Honey Don't!

Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Chris Evans (Knives Out) and Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus): it’s a cast too good to miss. That’s why we’re excited for Honey Don’t!, an upcoming detective comedy film set to release tonorrow, starring Qualley as a private investigator. When a series of murders starts occurring in her small town, Honey O’Donahue (Qualley) discovers that they all seem to be linked to a mysterious and sinister church — here’s everything you need to know.

What is Honey Don’t! about?

Honey Don’t! is directed by Ethan Coen, best known for his work as part of the Coen Brothers, and is a follow-up of sorts to his previous film Drive Away Dolls, which also starred Qualley. At its core is Honey, a woman working as a private investigator in a small town somewhere in America. She has a penchant for delving into cases that crop up and finding the answers no one else can, and so when several deaths that appear to be murders are committed in the local area, she jumps at the chance to solve them. What she uncovers, however, is that all of the murders seem to be linked to a mysterious church, which seems to have scandalous secrets being kept hidden from the public eye. Of particular interest is a preacher at the church, Dean, who’s played by Chris Evans and gives sermons with a flamboyant style.

The preacher certainly seems to be a slippery suspect, and Evans (judging by the trailer) appears to be leaning into a similar shady side that he showed in Knives Out. But is there more to the case than meets the eye? On hand to assist Honey in her investigations and interrogations is a police officer known as “MG” (played by Plaza), as well as another detective character played by Charlie Day, of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame. Qualley also described Honey in an interview with i-D magazine as “Like honey — she’s skilful, she’s smooth, she is slipping in and out undetected.”

What else do we know, and is there a release date?

In addition to the main cast, Honey Don’t! also stars Billy Eichner (Bros), Gabby Beans (Succession), Lena Hall (Becks), Don Swayze (On Swift Horses) and Talia Ryder (Dumb Money). It’s set to release in UK cinemas tomorrow [5th September].
