Everything We Know About Last Seen, The Gripping Missing Person Thriller
Always keen to dive into a gripping thriller series? Last Seen, which comes to Apple TV next month, is definitely one to add to the watchlist. The Australian-made drama stars Patrick Brammall and Maxine Peake, and follows a father whose search for his missing daughter takes an unexpected turn years after she vanished. Here’s everything you need to know:
What is Last Seen about?
Last Seen centres on Ian Ridley (Brammall), a former police detective whose life was tragically shattered 11 years earlier when his young daughter Maggie disappeared without a trace in every parent’s worst nightmare. Unable to move on from the tragedy that still haunts him so many years later, Ian has since left his more intensive frontline police job and now works as a dispatcher in the force, all the while refusing to believe that Maggie is truly gone- holding out hope they could one day be reunited.
Everything changes when Ian answers an emergency call from a frightened teenage girl. The still grieving father is convinced that the voice on the other end belongs to Maggie, and he becomes determined to track his daughter down. Despite having little evidence to support his belief, he can’t let go of hope and begins to start trying to get he back. As Ian launches his own investigation, he finds himself pulled back into a case that has haunted both his family and the wider community for over a decade.
It’s based on the book The Dispatcher by Ryan David Jahn, and adapted for television by The Murders at White House Farm writer Kris Mrksa. Across six parts, the thriller explores the incredible lengths a parent will go to see his daughter safely return, even when everyone else has long since given up and declared the case cold. Set and filmed in Victoria, Australia, the series becomes a twisting thriller where Ian becomes more and more obsessed with his mission- even if it could pull his family apart entirely.
Is there a trailer, and when does it release?
There’s no official trailer yet for the upcoming drama, but Apple has released a few first-look images of our characters, including Ian and what looks like the girl who he believes is Maggie.
Last Seen premieres globally on Apple TV+ on 9 September 2026, launching with its first two episodes before continuing weekly.
