Daisy Edgar-Jones & Jacob Elordi Star In Romantic Drama On Swift Horses

One film we’ve been very excited to see this month is On Swift Horses, that is out in theatres now. Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi and Will Poulter, the film is based on the book of the same name by Shannon Pufhal.
Set in the 1950s, it follows a couple who moved to California following the end of the Korean War. Their lives are upended when Lee’s (Poulter) younger brother Julius (Eolordi) arrives, and Muriel (Edgar-Jones) starts gambling on racehorses. Here’s all you need to know:
What is On Swift Horses about?
The film premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival and is set to be released later this year in the UK. Twisters star Daisy Edgar-Jones and Saltburn’s Jacob Elordi are joined by Will Poulter (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Diego Calva (Babylon) and Sasha Calle (The Flash). As we meet Lee and Muriel, who are planning on starting a new life together, there’s something of a love triangle going on. Lee wants Muriel to finally marry him, but Muriel has complicated feelings for his brother Julius, who shows up unexpectedly, having also come home from the war. Julius may love his brother, and Lee may want them to all find their own “American Dream”, but conflicting passions threaten to get in the way.

Muriel and Lee may be a couple, but it’s the relationship between her and Julius that the film really revolves around. Both are into gambling, with Julius preferring card games and Muriel becoming a keen bettor on horse races, and both keep in contact with each other. However, both also develop a secretive aspect to their lives when they meet and find romance with different people: Julius meets Henry (Calva) after getting a job at a casino, and the two coworkers fall for each other. Muriel, meanwhile, develops a relationship with Sandra (Calle), and both she and Julius keep their romances under wraps in part due to the societal taboo of queer relationships. It’s from these complex and hidden-away desires that On Swift Horses finds most of its emotional heft. The film arrived in UK cinemas on 5th September.
