From the softest cashmere designs to tasteful colourways and cute slogan styles we’d quite frankly like to be made into adult-sized knitwear, get cosy this January with our cool hot water bottle edit.

You can throw all the high-tech beauty gadgets at us but sometimes all you need is a good old-fashioned hot water bottle. January – with its lack of social events, cold nights and, let’s be honest, rising energy bills – seems the perfect time to invest in one if you haven’t already. And this season, the humble toasty staple has had a bit of a fashion makeover, with some of the coolest and quirkiest designs we’ve come across, as well as new knitwear brands and some iconic old favourites putting their stamp on the hot water bottle.

First up, the brand that inspired this entire piece, Ambar. Spotted on our favourite interiors store, Glassette, these cute lambswool hot water bottles are super soft and come in some very pleasing colourways. In fact, they look like little shrunken down roll neck sweaters that we’d quite like to wear ourselves. Buy as a gift or treat yourself this January whether it’s for movie nights on the sofa or to pop inside your coat on the commute.

Also at Glassette, check out Hampshire-based indie brand, Chickpea. Their luxuriously soft lambswool covers come in a multitude of chic designs, from checkerboard to – our favourite – candy cane stripes.

Full disclosure, we’re not massively condoning spending upwards of £200 on a hot water bottle, but if you’re in the market for that there are some pretty special ones out there. Burberry’s houndstooth knitted print in forest green and off-white will bring a fashion edge to the living room and is chic enough to leave lying about on the sofa. The Holy Goat’s quirky designs range from an intricate embroidered alpine scene to a flames and ‘Some like it hot” slogan.

British designer, Anya Hindmarch, adds extra warmth to her usual charming designs with these cute instarsia hot water bottle covers. Choose from her iconic googly eyes or a cute “oops!” slogan.

Speaking of, if you’re into offbeat slogans, check out Brit brand, Pickles Knitwear. Their cute hot water bottles riff on pop culture references, from their Veganuaury-appropriate ‘Hot girls eat veg’ design to a flirty ‘I think you’re hot’ slogan – a unique Valentine’s gift that’s sure to win over even the chilliest of souls.

Pickles’ flirty ‘I think you’re hot’ hot water bottle would make a unique Valentine’s gift that’s sure to win over even the chilliest of souls.
