20 Vinyl Storage Hacks For Record Lovers
With record sales at a 30-year high and outselling CDs for the first time in 35 years, vinyl is having its renaissance moment. If you’re in the market for some cool ways to keep your favourite sleeves or are ready to embark on your own collection, scroll on for our chic vinyl storage hacks.
We might be a sucker for a new podcast or find ease in streaming a Spotify playlist straight from our phone, but nothing beats putting an actual vinyl on the record player. There’s something ritualistic about it. With all the noise surrounding social media and multiple platforms that we simultaneously use, taking a breather, putting on your favourite sleeve and properly listening to an album front to back is a self-care ritual we could all benefit from.
And while owning a record player and a collection of vinyl may be something to feel quietly cool about, storing them takes up space, unlike a glossary of every tune ever to have teased its way into your sound waves inside your phone. Thankfully, there are myriad ways to store vinyl, whether you want to keep them out of sight and clutter-free or are keen to show off just how eclectic your music taste really is, but there’s one golden rule, and that’s the science. Records need to be stored with a little love, and in short, that means storing them upright and at the correct temperature. Your 7″s will degrade quicker in too warm a climate, so ensure you don’t store them by a sunlit window or next to a radiator. Similarly, metals and wood are better sources of storage, unlike plastic, which can heat up quickly.
Marcel Media Unit – £1,795 – SOHO HOME
So where to look? The high street has jumped on the vinyl revival wagon with some excellent options from Urban Outfitters, La Redoute and Dunelm, specifically made for vinyl storage. But if you’re really keen to make a statement about your music collection and a dedicated area to nurture it in your home, we love leaning into the retro feel of it all with a low-level mid-century cabinet.
Soho Home’s Marcel design is top of the wish list with its sharp edges, square-cut ridges and rich oak wood. Keep the top lowkey with a record player, vase of blooms and a table lamp, and modify the inside so that there are no shelves and ample space to store your vinyl collection upright.

If you’re after something a bit more modern, check out IKEA for their iconic modular range that can be established and added to as your collection grows. Or Dunelm’s Georgi vinyl cabinet, which feels a bit more moody and cool rather than vintage and will create a slick, at-home bar feel in your space.

Record Player Stand
£241.61
Etsy.co.uk
Etsy’s wooden record player stand stores, showcases and holds your record player all in one cosy place – ideal if you’re at the start of your burgeoning collection journey and don’t have a huge amount of space for storage.
Great gift idea for a music lover: Urban Outfitters’ wall-mountable, 3D printed shelf that features a bold ‘Now Playing’ design to prop your vinyl du jour on top of.
Finally, if your record collection still remains quite modest and you don’t want to invest in an expensive piece of furniture, you can store and search through your favourite 7″ via a chic magazine rack. Go for a design with no top handle and enough space to file in your records – we love Soho Home’s leather version and a retro raffia design by John Lewis.
