Interior Design Experts

We all have our wish list items, but what about the people in the know: the buyers, designers and stylists. We spoke to experts from leading design companies to find out exactly what they’d like to treat themselves to this year.

It’s often easy to find out what an influencer is coveting, but wouldn’t be great to get the inside track from the people behind the scenes? These are the creatives subtly shaping our homes, discovering products from around the world and at the forefront of design. From a highly anticipated launch at The Conran Shop to an exquisite masterpiece from Janaïna Milheiro, an atelier specialising in innovative featherwork – pretty apt given feathers are set to be one of the biggest trends for AW23 – these are the pieces interior design experts are longing to buy. So read on for inspiring insight and a few ideas to add to your own wish list.

Interior Design Ideas For SS23

Soho Home, Candy Murray, Interior Style Manager

I have personally been coveting the Lawrence bed. I love its soft elegant lines; it feels like a modern, classic piece that would sit well across a number of interior styles. A bed is definitely an investment piece, so having something that feels timeless, yet still creates that cosy Soho House feel at home with a soft upholstered headboard, is an investment worth making. After all, you use your bed every day, so it’s important to feel relaxed and happy in it.

Creating a warm and inviting bedroom is essential to a good night's sleep.

We were just in Paris for Maison & Objet and had the pleasure of viewing the latest CC-Tapis rug collection, Les Arcs, which re-visited colour ways and designs by the late Charlotte Perriand. Perriand is a constant source of inspiration to us, and CC-Tapis, having their design studio based in Micaela’s home city of Milan, is a brand that we return to often. We especially love Brun Abeille for its striking pattern and peculiar colour combination. We also absolutely love the new ‘Note Side Table in Oiled Walnut’ by London based maker and designer Edward Collinson. It’s a warm crafted piece with such simple clean lines, a piece that is functional but doubles as sculpture in our eyes.

The AD11 chair launching in 2023 is set to be a future classic made from a single sheet of FSC marine plywood and influenced by the classic Adirondack chair typology which has been evolved into a simple architectural piece of furniture providing ergonomic comfort for outdoor and indoor lounging.  It also has a hidden bottle opener on underside of the arm which makes it ideal for outdoor lounging.

I’ve been dying to buy / find the perfect café table lamp. I love how cool and chic they are, and it’s such an iconic trend from the ’20s which is definitely being brought back.  Ideal for adding an extra special touch to your dinner party table as no plug sockets needed I think it’s going to be the most sought after item this year.

In 2023, I will be buying vintage fabrics, as influenced by the late and much missed Robert Kime, teamed with white linen sofas to frame the detail and story of the fabric. It is these final accents, the pieces of personal art or antique ornaments brought back from a recent travel that make a space yours and give it your personality. Much like jewellery or cufflinks to an outfit.

I will be buying large indoor plants in 2023. Bringing the best of the outside indoors provides wonderful structure and creates a comforting and nurturing mood within a space.

The one-piece I will be buying this year is a new Sleep Dohar. I’m predicting that this will be the most sought-after item of the year, and must-have for anyone valuing their sleep hygiene, comfort and looking to refresh their bedding this Spring / Summer 2023. A Dohar is a unique 3-layered soft cotton blanket, originally designed to keep Indian Royalty cool in the monsoon, now exclusively available in the UK and redesigned in whisper-soft tones to complement the look of our Western bedroom interiors. Dohars are naturally hypoallergenic, breathable, moisture wicking and temperature-regulating, and a brand new way of layering your bedding to achieve the optimum condition to stay cool, yet snug in bed this summer. You can also use them in combination with a range of quilts and blankets to mix and match easily depending on the weather.

Sharland England, Louise Roe, Founder & CEO

The one piece I’m after for Spring ’23 is a beautiful vintage flatweave rug for the living room, and the hunt is half the fun. I love scouring flea markets, eBay and Love Antiques.

Kitesgrove, Clara Ewart, Head of Design

One of my most sought after items for 2023 is the home bar.  Creating a home bar can be as simple as setting up a beautiful tray with a small selection of favourite bottles, glasses, and accessories. This can be easily incorporated into an existing joinery unit, bookcase or simply placed on top of a kitchen worktop. Bar carts are a convenient and stylish addition to any quiet corner with the added benefit that they can be tucked away when not in use. Antique bar carts in particular will help to add character and personality to a space, creating an inviting ambience when entertaining. Wherever you set up a home bar, consider the lighting, which is key to creating atmosphere in any room in the house. A small table lamp will help bring a club-like feel, or simply light a candle to bring it to life,

I would adore a piece by Janaïna Milheiro. I went to her studio in Paris – she is one of the few people that work exclusively with feathers in her pieces – and has been so innovative in her technique & application – using them in glass, on mirrors, as window trimmings, embroidered in leather, even as lighting.

La Manufacture Cogolin, Sarah Henry, Managing and Artistic Director

Ok, not an interiors piece, but potentially essential to my job, it’s got to the Yves Saint Laurent Icare maxi bag. It’s a huge bag, big enough for carrying my computer, the fabric and rug samples that I’m always dragging around with me.

La Manufacture Cogolin is the best-kept secret among today’s most sophisticated clients in search of rugs of unrivaled elegance, hand-knotted or woven by local craftswomen in a small village near Saint-Tropez since 1924.
