You’ve got gluten free diets, plant-based fads, fruitarians and now there’s even some extremists going the next stretch and going on a raw food diet. Similar to veganism, a raw diet consists of fruit, veggies, nuts, and seeds, with the use of techniques such as juicing, blending, dehydrating, soaking and sprouting to help maintain maximum nutrition and goodness is left with every dish. We’re talking courgette ribboned lasagna, raw pizza, and kimchi-style everything, so if you fancy channeling your inner caveman (or cavewoman) with a modern style raw diet, we’re rounded up seven of London’s best raw food restaurants. If you’re just starting out on this raw food journey, your first port of call needs to be Vantra. These guys have been knocking about on the veggie scene for 20 years now, serving up nutritious, sustainable food to Londoners from their resto in Soho. Vantra use three key techniques to prepare their delicious dishes; raw, fermentation and steaming, to enable the maximum amount of nutrients can be retained in their food.

Paradise Plantbased

Raw pizza? Next joke.

Well, actually over at Paradise Plantbased, their raw pizza has its very own fanbase! These guys serve up all of your carb loaded favourites in raw form. Think raw lasagna with sheets of courgette, cashew cheese, and mariana sauce, or why not opt for their raw soup of the day served with raw crackers or toast. And, of course, we can’t forget their scummy raw cakes! These have got all of your guilty pleasures catered for, but you certainly won’t feel guilty after!

M Victoria ST

We know what you’re thinking. Why is a restaurant that’s renowned for its exceptional steak popping up in a guide about raw food? Well, funnily enough M Victoria ST has launched its own 100% vegetarian and gluten-free restaurant, M RAW, and it’s blooming good!

The new nutritious menu champions the purity of natural ingredients and sustainability, through using organic produce, and in the process, eliminates any meat, fish and gluten. Menu highlights include; avocado escabeche with fennel, pink grapefruit and yuzu caviar; polenta stuffed tomato served with almond, artichoke, fennel and salsa Rosso; and their mega pulse burger, served naked or in a gluten free bap, with sweet potato chips and herb vegan mayo!

Tanya Maher is on a mission to fuel us Londoner’s with nutritious and plant-based energising foods, and the restaurant has been cooking up a storm on the veggie front for a while now! Since the restaurants relaunch in 2017, you’ll be lucky to nab yourself a seat! But if you do manage to get a table, you’ll be tucking into some uber-nutritious plant-based goodies.

A favourite of ours is temaki roll filled with rice and buckwheat, probiotic sauerkraut, pickled carrots, veg and herbed almond cashew paste, all rolled in nori seaweed and served with a creamy tahini miso dip! My mouth’s watering just thinking about it…

If you know anything about London’s vegan culture, you’ll know Farmacy is up their with the big guns. It’s the brainchild of Camilla Fayed opening in 2016 on Westbourne Grove between Notting Hill and Bayswater. And, it’s clear to say they know a thing (or ten) about raw food!

Highlights on the menu include the healthy earth bowls especially the kimchi bowl with soba noodles, spicy kimchi, sautéed chard stems, raw kolhrabi, raw brine carrots, marinated mushrooms, radish sprouts and tamarind vinaigrette, and delicious sides of potato chips and aioli. Save room for their pièce de résistance – the raw chocolate tart. It’s served with coconut sorbet and housemade caramel sauce, and it’s honestly one of the dreamiest vegan desserts we’ve tried! Definitely one to try if you’re around the area.

Wild Food Café

Spearheaded by Joel and Aiste Gazdar, Wild Food Café is raising the roof on plant-based cuisine using natural foods and ingredients, and are channeling practices and methods which haven’t been fully explored in western society. Striving to find the most nourishing wild crafts and forage foods from pristine ecosystems, and ethical local suppliers, the menu fuses together British ingredients packed with global influences and flavours.

You’ve probably seen their famous rainbow cheesecake popping up on your Insta feed too, and it’s a must-try if you’re venturing over to their Islington branch!

Raw Press

The clue’s within the name but Raw Press serves up a whole host of raw delicacies. Their Kings Cross branch focuses on their signature juice and wellness drinks range, while their Chelsea venue ventures further with a revolving menu of nourishing food. Start your morning with one of their fresh açai bowls, and grab yourself one of their healthy raw salad lunch options on your way to work.

Their renowned juices and healthy bites are also available at various independent retailers throughout London, so keep your eyes peeled if you want to get your five-a-day in!
