8 Ways to Spend Valentine’s Day If You’re Single

5th February 2016 | By Emily Gray

Here at The Handbook HQ we’re all about balance, we’ll have our green juice in the morning and our burgers in the evening. We’ll attend Body Pump three times in a week and then not move from our sofa all weekend. And so, since we’ve told you about what to do if you’re loved up this Valentine’s Day, we’re now going to tell you about what to do if you’re single. And it’s not re-enacting the opening scenes of Bridget Jones, it’s not giving all couples death stares or eating yourself into a food coma with too much ice-cream. It’s about celebrating your best friends, it’s about spending all your money on yourself just because you can and it’s about getting free drinks and not feeling like you owe anyone for them.

The Book Club

BFF Party

You know we think Carrie Bradshaw might have been onto something when she said, ‘Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.’ Same for guys and their friends too of course. The Book Club are forgetting romance and are encouraging us to celebrate our real loves – our friends with their Palentine’s Day party. Start the evening with a friendship bracelet making workshop courtesy of Crafternoon Cabaret Club, followed by a screening of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, love letter writing (to your pals) and games of truth or dare. They’re providing the popcorn, sweets and cocktails, you just need to bring your chums.

Where: 100 Leonard Street, EC2A 4RH

Zetter Townhouse

Three is Not a Crowd

Are you always the third wheel when it comes to hanging out with your loved up pals? Have you perfected the eye roll when your couple friends start a definitely not needed PDA or perhaps worse calling each other pet names? Well we say ditch them, find two of your single friends and head to Zetter Townhouse Marylebone and Clerkenwell, because from 12th Friday to 14th Sunday they’ll be giving all groups of three or more a complimentary cocktail – choose from the Third Wheel or the Gooseberry Kir. No PDAs here.

Where: 28-30 Seymour St, London W1H 7JB

Queen of Hoxton

Don't Go Breaking My Heart

If you think you and Wednesday Adams would be the ultimate squad, you know bonding over your cold hearts and lack of feelings then we have just the event for you. Indulge in your macabre side at the Queen of Hoxton with their anti-valentine’s workshop. Led by professional mortician, pathology museum curator and go-to-girl for all things death related in London, Carla Valentine you’ll learn how to make and keep your own heart in a jar. Before your thoughts turn to your ex, ewe’ll be using animal hearts (if you get what we mean)…

Where: 1 Curtain Road, London, Greater London, EC2A 3JX

York & Albany

Bloody Valentine Cabin

York & Albany are taking no chances in ensuring guests have a thoroughly unromantic, Valentine-less Valentine’s day this year with their Bloody Valentine Cabin. Blood-splattered walls and cult horror films will provide the entertainment while guest drink and eat their cares away with snacks and cocktails. Call it overkill, but I don’t doubt for a moment a night here would be perfectly imperfect.

Where: 127-129 Parkway, London, United Kingdom

Prime Burger

The messiest, most unromantic dinner on offer

Valentine’s Day dates are all about taking your S/O somewhere fancy, trying hard to remember which knife and fork to use for each course, and delicately wiping the corner of your mouth on a napkin. So what better way to celebrate Anti-Valentine’s Day than by doing the complete opposite and tucking into a giant, messy, minty-breath-destroying burger? The Heartbreaker Burger from Prime Burger is just that. 2 patties, 3 types of cheese, onions and garlic mayo – the perfect way to show everyone how little you care this Valentine’s Day.

Where: The Circle, St Pancras International Station, Pancras Rd, London N1C 4QP

The Piano Works

'Night at the movies' theme

What better way to celebrate being alone on Valentines day than by having a drink and acting out your favourite RomComs? That’s just what’s on offer The Piano Works! Two pianists and a live band will be on hand to play audience requests as guests raid the movie props and get their photo taken in the photobooth and indulge on movie classics like popcorn, ice cream and limited edition cocktails.

Where: 113-117 Farringdon Road Entrance corner of, Ray St, Farringdon EC1R 3BX
