6 of the Best Festive Cinema Pop-Ups
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Elf, Love Actually and The Holiday. It’s a fact. And whilst it’s all too tempting to hibernate in your home, wrapped up in a duvet and eat mince pies whilst you watch Christmas film reruns, what you should actually be doing is meeting up with your nearest and dearest and heading to one of these winter cinemas. Sip Champagne, (or eat spaghetti with maple syrup and sprinkles if you’re Elf), have your own private screen or get lost in an enchanted forest… alright, where do we sign?
St Katherine Dock
Floating Cinema
St Katherine Docks’ floating cinema is back for Christmas with an extravaganza of films to celebrate the festive period, all while bobbing gently up and down on a pontoon in the dock. With classics including Elf, The Holiday, Love Actually, Home Alone and Miracle on 34th Street there’s every reason to get your head down and head down.
From the 3rd of December

Tropicana Beach Club
From Beach Club To Snow Club
Climate change deniers, cop a load of this for evidence: Tropicana Beach Club, the tropical island paradise located somewhere between the South Seas and Covent Garden (Parker Street, to be precise), has just frozen over. Welcome Frozen Island, the takeover from Neighbourhood Cinema. Fancy watching Polar Express, Elf or Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory? This is the place to come. There are two kinds of people, those who have never seen Frozen and those who have seen it over 100 times, but if you’re one of the lucky few to fall in the former bracket, then come and watch that too. Don’t worry if you’re a bone-fide adult, then don’t worry, there’s Die Hard, The Holiday and Love Actually slated for viewings.
Neighbourhood Cinema’s Frozen Island will pop up every Sunday from 11th November to 27th January with two kids’ screenings (12.30pm and 4.30pm) and with adult films (get your minds out of the gutter) showing at 8.30pm.
Where: Tropicana Beach Club, Parker Street, Covent Garden, WC2B 5PW.

The Berkeley
Rooftop Cinema
With an intimate amount of seats and set in a secret rooftop garden, The Berkeley’s winter cinema is like non-other. Throughout December, The Berkeley’s Health Club & Spa is once again transforming its rooftop terrace into a pine-filled forest cinema where hotel guests and Londoners are treated to winter classics on the big screen. To stop you getting cold (because cinemas are normally freezing even when they aren’t outside) you’ll find Moncler fur wraps, fleecy rug, hot water bottles and fluffy cushions. Add in mince pies and hot chocolates or if you’re going all out, Champagne, and you have yourself the perfect winter evening.
Opens 1st December
Where: Wilton Place, Knightsbridge, London, SW1X 7RL, United Kingdom

The Snowman™ Experience
Chillingly Good
This is a public service announcement, it may be sunny, and we may be in for an Indian summer, but it is now 109 days until Christmas or if you’re one of those who can’t grow up and still speak like you’re at primary school, 110 sleeps. Why are we talking about this now? Because to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs’ beloved book, The Snowman, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland has teamed up with Backyard Cinema to create an exclusive, immersive adventure and tickets are on sale now. Set to be Backyard Cinema’s biggest and most festive experience yet, guests will find themselves immersed in the magical world (which is over 5000 sq ft) of The Snowman as they journey through replica sets from the film before watching the film on a 10-metre-wide curved LED screen. The Snowman himself will be making an appearance too, but he better not be melting because I’m still emotionally scarred by that.
Backyard Cinema presents: The Snowman™ Experience will run from the 22nd November 2018 until 6th January 2019
