8 Winter Rooftops You Need to Know About
If you’re going to ‘ding dong merrily’ from the rooftops this Christmas, then better make sure you’re on the right rooftop. We’re obsessed with roofy fun, which is handy when it comes to putting together rooftop lists. And so here’s an advance glance at the rooftops coming to town.
Temple (0.3 miles)
On the 10th floor of ME London sits one of London’s most sought-after rooftops. Try and land a table here during summer and unless you’re actual Kanye and have a very good story to tell the front desk, you ain’t getting in. So winter has a lot to live up to. And thankfully it does, with Radio Rooftop’s winter rooftop remaining one of the most popular rooftops in London. Their ‘Tapas Con Vistas’ (needs no translation) will keep you happily topped up (the weekend brunch menu is excellent) as you gaze towards the City, Tate Modern, Somerset House or he Houses of Parliament.

John Lewis Oxford Street
Where else can you buy a new set of face-flannels and indulge in a spot of rooftop iceskating? (Hint, the answer is definitely nowhere!). While their competitors fall like flies, the department store equivalent of Jack and Dani, Oxford Street John Lewis, is proving that by constantly innovating it’s staying one step ahead of the pack. And in this instance that looks like a rooftop winter hideaway complete with huts, cocktails and skating. The venture, in partnership with gin brand Sipsmith, takes its inspiration from the ‘frost fairs’ of 17th century London when the Thames would freeze over.
Where: 300 Oxford Street, Marylebone, W1C 1DX
Head out east to Wapping’s Tobacco Dock for rooftop skating, activities, hot toddies; the works at Skylight. The venue is currently in its ‘autumnal’ phase (think hay bales, harvest festival etc), but come the start of November Skylight will transform into a wintery wonderland atop a multi-storey in the East End.
Where: Tobacco Dock, Pennington Street entrance, St Katharine's and Wapping, E1W 2SF
Hyde Park Corner (0.3 miles)
The Berkeley somehow manages to top the scale of luxury hotels even while being located slap in the middle of Knightsbridge, the most luxurious square half-mile in the entire world. And now the experience extends out onto the roof as their winter rooftop reopens. The Berkeley’s Health Club will transform into a festive forest and complement views across Hyde Park with views of their big screen. Settle into classics like Miracle on 34th Street and The Nutcracker while snuggled under a velvet and fleece blanket. Screening reservations open this Friday, 19th October.

Brr. How’s about a Narnia Terrace? We all love a bit of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, so we’re sure you’ll enjoy Savage Gardens Christmas offering of a sky-high Narnia extravaganza. In collab with Absolut Elyx Vodka, guests will escape the bustle of London streets to a wardrobe full of Narnia-esque libations including a Magical Martini made with fig liqueur, ‘miracle foam’ and sprinkled with raspberry dust; Absolutely Aslan with Antica Formula, Amaro Angostura, sherry, cinnamon syrup and chilli bitters; and The Long Winter with pineapple liqueur, orgeat syrup, pineapple juice, ginger and vanilla bitters. It’s all faun and games…

The Silver Chicken, A.K.A.’d as Coq d’Argent has one of the best rooftops in The City. With far-reaching views, it’s the perfect alternative to its brash neighbours over at The Ned and there’s nothing brash about their winter rooftop. Head up to Lodge d’Argent from 20th November when the magical terrace opens and transports guests to Courchevel in collaboration with Hennessy. The lodge will be up until the end of February.

The Churchill Bar and Terrace
You might not be able to literally escape to the Scottish Highlands, but you can figuratively go, with The Churchill Bar & Terrace’s Highlands Hideaway, launching next month! The terrace will feature all things synonyms to good ol’ Scotland; faux fur throws, pine trees, woodland features and, of course, tartan!
Accompanying the cosy atmosphere will be a selection of sumptuous drinks led by Head Bartender Daniele Bresciani, including classics made from Scotch whisky concoctions that’ll have you saying Sláinte all night long!

The Stratford venue has been transformed for the winter thanks to SFG Club with curling, skating, food and drink (obviously Jamaican).
