8 Ways To Retox
If you’re in the middle of Dry January then I’m guessing that it’s starting to bite. You’ve put enough space between the debauchery of December and now, and with the fading guilt comes the realisation that it’s still another half month until the end of Dry January. New Year’s Eve is still closer to now than January 31st.
So what if there was a way to continue with the spirit, if you’ll excuse the pun, of Dry January, if not the letter? Welcome to Damp January, which sees you cut down on the alcohol content, without throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Here’s some places to head to make the most of Damp January.
Coin Laundry
Leave your dirty clothes at home and head to Coin Laundry, the cool Clerkenwell hangout where there’s something better than Persil on sale. Specifically a range of cocktails low in alcohol and perfect for a damp January. Catch their Calypso Spritzo, made with Belsazar Rose Vermouth, Mediterranean tonic and grapefruit or a Hoppy Cooler, formed of hopped tequila, orgeat, grapefruit, lemon and ginger ale.
Where: 70 Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell, EC1R 4QP

The Book Club
The sort of book club where you don’t have to read your way through a doorstop Dostoevsky first is a score in my book (no pun). Thankfully there’s no such expectation at The Book Club, but there IS a menu of low ABV cocktails to get involved with.
Old Compton Brasserie
Zero to hero: the Dry January selection at Old Compton Brasserie isn’t actually dry. They’ve gone long on something called Woodstar. The low alcoholic drink, with an ABV of just 1%, is a blend of flavours, including acai berries, French blackcurrants, blueberries and cherries, together with botanicals and a hint of cocoa.
Where: 34–36 Old Compton Street, Soho, W1D 4TT
