The Michael Jackson Biopic Is Out Tomorrow, Here Is Everything You Need To Know

Musical biopics have seemed to dominate Hollywood recently, with icons like Elvis, Elton John, and Amy Winehouse all taking centre stage. Now, it’s Michael Jackson’s time to return to the spotlight with a new film retelling the life of the “King of Pop” coming to cinemas tomorrow. Starring Colman Domingo, Miles Teller and Michael’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the title role, here is everything you need to know about the upcoming release.
The plot
Titled Michael, the film offers an expansvie, deep-dive into the “King of Pop”, charting his meteoric rise to fame and spanning several decades of his life. It begins by retelling his early childhood as a memeber of the Jackson 5, and follows his evolution into a solo powerhouse, from coining The Moonwalk to the release of songs like Thriller and Bad. However, the trailer suggests a heavy lean toward his professional triumphs, a move that has sparked debate over whether the film will fully address the darker complexities of his legacy. This sanitised lens has already divided fans and critics, ensuring that while the film will be a box-office giant, it will almost certainly be one of the year’s most divisive releases.

The cast and crew
Despite its controversy, the film has a host of acclaimed names attached to it, namely the producer of Bohemian Rhapsody, Graham King, while it has been written by John Logan, the brains behind countless hits, including Skyfall, Gladiator and Hugo. Meanwhile, the film’s director is Antoine Fuqua, who has previously brought us Bullet Train and Southpaw. The cast is also stacked, featuring the likes of Colman Domingo (Running Man, Euphoria), Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick), and Laura Harrier (Spider-man: Homecoming). But, the casting that has really got people talking is Michael’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, taking on the role of his late uncle, and from the trailer alone his portrayal looks remarkably uncanny.
